    DIY snus reviews.

I got to try Mr. Snuffleupagus' home made snus.

He sent me generous amounts of black currant, bergamot, and unflavored los. I portioned it myself and I have now tried a 1gram portion of both of the flavored samples.

I might not have the palette of an experienced snus reviewer but I will give it a try.
The snus is very comparable to other commercial grade snus in color, texture, and moisture. It is slightly saltier then a general but certainly in the range of most Swedish snus. The tobacco flavor reminds me of maybe a Grove or Ettan but more mild. The flavorings that he added do not come through much for me but Mr. Snuffleupagus let me know there is only slight flavoring before he sent them. There is a little burn so I imagine the nicotine content is at least in the ballpark of other commercial snus.

All in all this is the real thing. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this snus if they like a classically flavored Swedish snus.

Good job Mr. Snuffleupagus. I hope you can give a review of the snus I sent you, though it is more in the vein of American style/dessert snus.

I would love to trade with more snuson members that are willing to make or flavor their own snus.

Sounds good. Maybe in a couple of years, we'll be buying Snuffy Snus!

I'm glad you like it, RRK. Nice review as well. I agree with everything you said.

I haven't tried yours out yet. The mailman did a great job of smashing the crap out of it. I need to scrape the snus off the baggies because they got smashed paper thin. I'll do it though and post my thoughts...

RRK was kind enough to send me a couple samples of his DIY flavored snus. There was a ziplock bag of loose and another sandwich bag inside the ziplock with a portion. Unfortunately, the envelope got smashed up real good in the mail and the two different flavors did mix a bit. However, I managed to get a taste of these flavors and here's my thoughts.

For background, RRK, used Odens ES Classic as the base and added flavorings to achieve these tastes.

                  Root beer portion
Because the package got smashed, there wasn't a lot of snus left in the portion. That did not seem to hinder the flavor. It was a strong sweet root beer flavor with a strong nic hit. I think root beer is a good flavor for snus and tasted good over the odens ES base. Anyone that likes heavily flavored snus should give this combo a try IMO. Personally, I'm not into sweet snus so it's not something I would enjoy very much, but snusers coming from dip, camel, or some other sweet treat would probably enjoy this snus. I have not tried discreet root beer so can't really compare it with that. But I will say there should be no problem getting enough nic with RRK's because of the Odens ES.

                  Lavender loose
Another first for me. This was a new and interesting flavor to have in snus for me. Once again way too sweet for my preference, but the lavender taste was good with this snus. I could see me liking a less sweet version of this. The lavender flavor reminded me of some of the more perfumey nasal snuff flavors which I like once in a while. The flavor is not as subtle as the notes I get with Skruf or Roda but a bit along those lines with the floweryness I'd say.

                  Summary
I'm not into heavy flavors or sweetness in my snus preferences right now. So these are over the top for me. But for others, I think these flavors were well done and combined with the nicotine strength would be quite enjoyable. I applaud RRK for putting the energy and thought into these experiments and sharing his efforts with me and here on SnusOn. I can see these efforts being very helpful to others who like to customize their flavors and portion their own snus.

                  SnusOn!

Thanks Mr. Snuffleupagus, I can imagine they would be hard to stomach for those that don't like sweet or heavily flavored snus. IMO compared to Discreet they are a bit more mild in sweetener and flavorings but the tobacco flavor of the Odens ES is much stronger.

I do think that root beer and lavender are both nice combos with snus. I was a little surprised with how good lavender is as well and I wanted to try root beer since everyone raved about the Discreet root beer.

Thanks for sticking it out even though it is not your cup of tea. Nice review.

snuffys svart vinbar is excellent! the grind is very coarse, so its tricky to get it to stick together, i wouldnt recommend handbaking it, but with an icetool, it makes a good pris. once its in there it stays put almost perfectly. the flavoring agent is fantastic. its inspired me to want to make some home brew snus too. im gonna pop a big pris of it and take a shower.

Hey, glad you like it "Grand Poobah of SnusOn".

You can handbake it. It takes some initial force to get it started, but holds together real well after that.
