    Best snus for the USA?

If snus was available at the local grocery and gas stations, of all the snus made worldwide, which snus do you think would do best in the US?

    Personally, I would say:

    Thunder, and Offroad.

I think these would appeal to the American market more than any other.

Personally, I believe a "long" portion snus would be appealing to the U.S.A. market. I think the strength and sachet size of 02 snus would be perfect, except the flavor should be a little more sweet.

I don't know. For an off the cuff response I think you could be right. Americans really like their stuff highly flavored, or that's the impression anyway. I don't think companies give people much of a chance to like an adult flavor. Copenhagen is a big seller, and it isn't loaded down with sweetness or weird flavors, I don't know why more makers don't aim for that mark.

Based on these forums Americans like plain old Swedish General. I bet it's the biggest seller in the USA, even with all the other choices.

Well, the reason I picked Thunder and Offroad, is they do have a variety of flavors, but they also have Original. Plus, I think the nic-hit of the Thunders would appeal to Americans. And since these are oral tobacco in round cans, I would sell them on the rack that has the dip, and Offroad and Thunder, also have names of them, that I think would be appealing.

A can of Claq Qui, for example, irregardless how good we know it is, I don't think has the marketablity as the Thunder and Offroads if it was on the rack at the gas station.

I sent an email to V2 telling them this, and they replied and said they were working on just this.

Clearly, NO, Americans don't prefer sweet snus.

Since at least 80% of the folks here are in America, look at the preferences here. Maybe only 20% prefer flavored snus??

Sage, I agree, me too. But I love Thunder original, and greatly like Offroad orginal. Now I don't mean us, that already know about and use snus. I mean a snus that was put on the racks tomorrow at the gas station and grocery. And V2 must be selling their variety of flavored snus, or they wouldn't keep making them.

              Tom,
Does the original have just have straight tobacco flavor?

              Sage.
You told me that my tastes would change as I delved further into the Snus world and you were right. Still don't like salty ones too much though.

Of the flavored ones I've tried, about the only one that I will definitely buy again is General Wintergreen and that will be only because soon I will be able to buy them locally. Doubt I will buy a roll at a time though.

Still have a few coming from swaps on the exchange to try.

PMD...In a month, maybe even 2 months if your body is stubborn, you won't be able to even tell which ones are the salty ones anymore.

Since you haven't been wrong so far, I guess I will need to change my user name to Salty Dog by Thanksgiving.

Thunder Original, seems to me, like Grov on steroids. Offroad Original is not flavored, I would say, but it does have a sweetish element in it.

V2 has a unique little niche in the snus world. I think these guys are VERY small, and can afford to sell snus on a small scale. Combine that with their contract snus, they probably make a nice living, but aren't getting rich.

I honestly don't know what would sell in America. If /I/ were doing the marketing, I'd capitalize on the fact that it's a foreign product, and in no way should it be compared with what's already here. I'd use traditional Swedish flavors, and tell people if they don't like it, they're n00bs :^D well not in those exact words, but I'd emphasize that it's for people with taste buds, and that it's a premium product, like comparing a nice single malt to Seagrams VO.

It's really too bad, but this is a hugely complicated question. IMHO most people in the US look at snus as another type of dip. Rot your mouth off redneck chew. It's gonna take a long time to change the image oral tobacco has in this country. To me it's way more of an image problem with the potential users as opposed to a flavor issue. Different flavors will appeal to different users. It's the perception of the product as a whole that we all need to work on (especially the manufacturers). When I've quit ciggs before, whether cold turky or with the e-cig, others were really supportive, even though it didn't last more than a few weeks. Now with snus, it's been months but others seem put-off---"you're doing dip now?". Most are very skeptical that it's a healthier alternative. Once the image changes, all the flavors will sell - as we've seen amongst ourselves.

Best snus for the USA is the General line.

You've got to have a company big enough to do a national rollout. No one else out there is big enough or has the expertise to service the market like Swedish Match can.

Swedish Match is the Procter and Gamble of the snus world.

Swedish Match would be the best bet, and I think the rumors persist about a big US expansion for a reason - they can afford to do it. Like Justin said, they're a big name with alot of money, and expanding into the US market on a large scale basis would be a profitable decision for them.
