I got my Kardus today and thought I'd post some first impressions. The box is nicely made and looks and smells like cherry wood. It feels and smells like it has a natural finish of maybe flax oil, or some other natural oil. Nice fit and finish. The inside red can seals well and had an initialed seal over the top.
On opening, the rum and dark tobacco aromas were immediately noticeable. The cut is nice and I hand baked a pris in under a minute and had no trouble inserting it. It's pretty juicy and I recommend licking the hand after baking.
It has a distinctive flavor, but comes on subtly and lasts a long time. I went two hours this first time, but I think one could easily go three hours plus. The pris molded well to my gum in about ten minutes and stayed very solid until the end. The long cut is milder, but seems to release flavor longer. I would say it is a bit above average in nicotine. It felt like it was around 10 mg. a gram and it had a sustained, even hit.
The first flavors are hints of rum and pure tobacco. At about thirty minutes it really starts to shine and puts off micro-bursts of flavor. A little salt, sweetish hints of rum, a subtle nut flavor, a hint of cocoa, subtle hints of fruitiness, with an underlying flavor like good pipe or cigar tobacco smells. At times it reminded me of Roda Lacket, at others Knox, then it would change and take on a new combination that was all its own. It went well with red wine and is easy to drink with.
This is excellent snus, but it is milder and subtler than other snuses. People used to heavily flavored snuses might be hard-pressed to taste the subtle flavor profile. It is truly a pleasure to taste high grade tobacco with a good complementing rum. To heavily flavor tobacco this good would be blasphemous. My wife tried it as well and we give it two thumbs way up.
