    Yet another "snusbie" thread

After lurking around for about a week and a half on this forum (a LOT to read) as well as finally receiving my first order of the "real stuff" and graduating from Camel Snus, I should give a "hi all" out to all of you (as well as an extremely long run on sentence).

Back story - smoker for about 15 years (1-2 packs/day). Tried to quit via nearly everything out there and finally succeeded at kicking the smokes a week and a half ago after having my first snus. Popped one in and never looked back. Somewhat surprised me I was so successful with it considering all I had at the time were the Camel snus, but really didn't have too many panic moments.

Just received my first order from Getsnus:

    - Ettan Portions
    - Roda Lacket
    - General Portions
    - General Wintergreen White Portions
    - General Sterk
    - Offroad Liquorish
    - All 5 Descrete poutches
    - Mystery can of General Mini White Portions

My first one I tried was the General Wintergreen and unfortunately I did not heed the warning and smelled it - ICK! The taste, as expressed, also was not particularly to my liking - although I can't say I really tasted much wintergreen or salt or whatnot - more tasted kind of, er, decayed. Into the fridge it goes - perhaps better tomorrow.

Then tried a Descrete strawberry, which is more to my immediate liking (likely since it has the "Sweetness" of the Camels I have grown accustomed to).

Thinking the next stop is the Ettan - I'll have to remember not to smell this time.

Anyways, I'd like to thank you all for sharing your experiences here - it almost feels like I know some of you now from reading these forums for endless hours and look forward to interacting.

The Ettan should smell like heaven. If you get that heavy ammonia smell in any snus or a horrible smell try airing it for a while, put it back in the fridge and try it the next day.

The longer you use snus the more you can taste. I would recommend opening the offroad licorice great stuff.

Also welcome to the forum you creepy stalker

Welcome to the forum Solarist. Glad you chimed in. Since you have been reading for a while I guess you know that real snus takes a while to get used to and that you eventually tire of the real sweet snus brands.

You have got a real good selection there to make the transition. Some will fade over time but many you have there will likely be favorites for a long time to come. Keep us posted and congrats on kicking the cigs

          Welcome aboard!!!

I totally agree with everyone so far and id like to add something i have discovered in my recent adventure.. Re-visit stuff you didnt like before.. I think it was sage that preached this so much and i completely agree with.. Your tastes will change constantly (at least for me) and something you detested at first (wintergreen) you may love later down the road.. You seem like you get that from your post so i wish ya good luck!!

Some real helpful people on this forum.. Enjoy the snus and congrats on the cigs!!

Upon Captncaveman's recommendation, I cracked open the offroad licorice and indeed - this is much better than the initial try with the Wintergreen, especially after the initial saliva fest in my mouth. Quite nice with coffee I must add. Keeps getting better and better.

I'll definitely keep the Wintergreen in the fridge and try it out again in a day or two.

Awesome. Once you've settled in good with snus, if you like licorice, give LD Black a try. It is teh roxxors.

'Course, I haven't tried Offroad licorice myself, yet. I need to fix that :O)

                  Welcome Solarist!

As others have stated, you seem to have made a good transitional selection for your first order. I came to Swedish snus from US Camel as well. It took me a couple of weeks to fully adjust to the salt, but since then its been on like Donkey Kong. My roommate however is different story. He can't seem to get off the sweet snus. He still smokes, however, and as such doesn't snus anywhere near as much as I do. (Sorry, I ramble sometimes...) Anyway, I think when I was I at your stage, the two that made the transition away from Camel the easiest were Ettan and RL. They both seem a milder on the salt than others. You should also check out Goteborgs Rape and GR No. 2. They both have kind of a juniper/berry flavor.

Good luck on your journey, buddy. And, as always, if you have any questions, you've found the best place to ask them. 8)

Woke up - and after a moment of contemplating the General Stark (was up too late last night and could use an arse kick awake), decided to break into the Ettan as it seems to be a favorite among many on here.

I think I may be joining the ranks of Ettan fans - the smell: not bad at all. The initial taste: after bracing myself for another "attack" on my mouth like the General Wintergreen, I was nicely surprise that it was great from the moment I popped it in. Mild on the salt, good smoky tobacco taste. Still works quite well with coffee (which I suspect will be a big criteria, as I am sipping on the coffee all day - reliance on Caffeine puts my Nicotine addiction to shame).

On the note about Caffeine, anyone have a guess how Elixyr will go on my relatively new to Swedish snus tastes?

Ettan is one of my favorites! You have a nice selection of snus picked out! Much, much more impressive than my first order.

                        Welcome!

Elixyr you say. Well imagine a sasquatch decided to run in a 3 day marathon. On his way home decides to stop by your place for chit chat. Instead of the usually "Hows it going Bob" he forces his way into your house. Throws you to the floor then tea bags your tongue over and over. He laughs at you while he breaks the news that he didn't shower.

With that much adrenaline running threw your veins, it does wonders for waking your ass up. But is it worth it???

Welcome to SnusOn Solarist. Like JPono said, you got a pretty good first order going. Try that Roda Lacket, it was one of my early favorites!

                              Welcome to SnusOn, Solarist!

Who on *earth* told you it wasn't okay to sniff your snus? Whoever told you that is a moron. There is no right or wrong way to snus. Hell, every night before I go to sleep, I place a portion of Ettan behind each of my eyelids.

Anyway, you've got a good order together. Elixyr is gross, but from a functional perspective, it does what it's supposed to do. Therefore, if you can get over the taste, use it. There are many here, sagedil, for instance, who use elixyr on a daily basis for the eye opening effects it produces.

Roda Lacket is great, my first taste of Swedish snus was Roda Lacket. General Wintergreen is gross, and Discrete would be good were it not embalmed with artificial sweeteners.

Good luck on your Snus adventure, keep off those cigarettes (I'm now 1 year and 6 months into my own quit, and I've been using snus since day one.)

Most of all, enjoy your new found tobacco experience.
