    wow, no sores!

it's crazy not having sores in my mouth anymore. i used to dip all the time and got cancer sores fairly often. it sucked. but with snus i haven't gotten a sore yet! believe me, i can surely tell how much better it is for my mouth than dip. dip has a real "invasive" feeling in your mouth while snus doesn't hurt or anything.(besides the occasional burn, but i feel that some brands of dip put other things like fiberglass etc. to cut your gums up worse for the nicotine to flow through, now thats a sticky subject and all, but if you open a can of dip without packing it and hold it in the light, you can see shiny things on top but they disappear when you pack it. weird, that's all.) snus feels far less invasive than dip, that's for sure. and more relaxing. after using snus for a while i can tell for sure a difference, and i've had no damn sores, although i did get a small rough spot on one side i snus on(although i try and switch places every time.)anyway, i feel that general loose feels a bit harsher on my gums than skruf stark for some reason. and GOD i love skruf stark. If i could trade my general back for skruf i'd do it. i dont get a buzz from even hand baking general. i'm gonna buy a roll of skruf for sure.(don't get me wrong, general tastes good and all but i'm in love with skruf) BTW, i've been dip free since i got my snus.

Good to hear you've come over to the light side of the force, friend. I've never tried dip, but it sounds quite rough! You say you got cancer sores? Do you mean 'canker sores'? I surely hope you weren't getting cancer on a regular basis!

I'm not sure about the fiberglass. This has been a long held rumor, but has never really been confirmed. Sometimes when you do the same with Snus you will see something shiny as well, but that is just regular ol' table salt the Swedes use to make it yummy!

How are you about not spitting? I've heard that some former dippers have some trouble with this.

The fibreglass is an old wives tale - I don't know where it came from. Cutting up your gums won't make the nicotine go in any faster - it's a chemical process which depends much more on the chemistry of the tobacco. Stronger varieties tend to be more alkaline, so maybe the extra burning gave someone that idea.

either way, now i'm positive that they put stuff in dipping tobacco for sure. chemicals etc. otherwise my mouth wouldn't be in such better shape. and believe me, i'm sure everyone here who is an ex dipper can tell you that dip is so much more painful than snus. there has to be a reason for that, and i'm sure its nasty added chemicals. plus dip and snus are two entirely different feelings when using them. all this is imo but i can sure tell a difference in the health of my mouth.

I really hope, that there will never be an unexperienced tobacco-producer, building up a new business and - after reading some forum-posts - deciding, that fiberglass is a MUST-ingredient for a new snus-brand.

            Cheers!

I agree. I don't necessarily know why, but dip is truly painful. Burns like crazy and makes the gums look blood red, then eventually pale and then out come the sores. Snus burned at first too, but not nearly as bad as dip. Not even close.

Maybe it's chemicals, but could it just have to do with dip being fire-cured and fermented while snus isn't? Chemicals are probably there too, I don't doubt that at all. Look at all the added shit in (most) American cigarettes. I shudder just thinking about it. Even when I smoked, it was always American Spirit or Nat Sherman or Jester RYO. Spirits and Shermans have no additives and Jester has very few, if any.

I wonder if U.S. Smokeless could ever be persuaded to disclose the contents of a can of their product. It would be interesting. Maybe even sickening.

yes, that would scare me, lol. finally someone who knows how good this feels!(health wise) keep in mind i used to love the burn of my favorite dip brand grizzley lc wintergreen(i'm sure you know about it) and i also really enjoyed kodiak but grizzley was very very painful and that's half of what i liked about it.(sick huh, although the pain means the buzz is coming) although the funny thing is that dip has a much more "dirty" feeling buzz compared to snus. i can't quite explain it but i know there has to be something added in dip for sure. i have noticed my gums feeling a bit leathery, but i've read this is normal. it's crazy being able to snus and not get huge painful sores(sometimes on the tip of the tongue) finally a way to enjoy tobacco. although if you know much about grizzley, you'd know my obvious snus choice at the moment is skruf... too bad general is way too weak for me.

well I started out using dip and chew when I was 18. I can't honestly say it ever 'hurt'. It was the flavor of the juice that I had to get used to. The only time it hurt was when it went in my throat. I used to dip a lot and then went to cigars for about a year and then switched to cigarettes for a year and a half. Came off cigarettes early this year.
When Skoal citrus came out I was using that quite a bit last early spring and so my tongue started to develop a patch in the middle of bloated, white taste buds that ached underneath.
I had this before, too, several times. Namely if I had chain-dipped for a couple days. But I just got sick of that shit with my tongue and my teeth feeling like they were going to rot out of my head.
So I sought out dip-alternatives and of course tried out the herbal stuff like Blue Whale (that still has some nicotine)...but that stuff smells like piss and has a pasty residue to it.
Came across snus and I was ecstatic.
I had envisioned the flavors and feeling of snus before I had got it and when I got it I was a bit disappointed. First thing I noticed was the intense burn.
Snus is most certainly painful when you first use it!! Also the flavors were nowhere near as potent as I thought they would be like dip. So I was like wtf? this is going to take some getting used to!
It took me a couple days to get used to the flavor, but at least a week and a half to get used to the pain.

Anyways, yes, using dip...it's not painful (for me) it's just...blegh.....****ing bastardized chemically syrup like shit in my mouth.
The only real pain I can associate with dip is after the sores come or the headaches that ensue.

I'm glad I switched to snus fo sho.

well i was using grizzley, which (i think) burns alot worse than skoal. but also snus hasn't really burned for me, maybe a light burn when i first started, but not nearly as bad as dip.

                        ex user of dip

Hi I miss the taste of cope long cut but I don't miss the oral health problems, I took care of my teath and then one morning awoke to find my gums were constantly bleeding and the roof of my mouth had swollen big time . My dentist said I had gum disease so after it cleared with anti biotics ect I never used the cope again, I then looked on the net and found Swedish snus and I never looked back. Although I use snus every hour of the day no more problems.
I flew through Dubai the other month and bought 5 cans of Skoal mint as a treat at the duty free only £3 for 5 cans
Its great as London Underground has a no smoking policy I can use General onyx / Gotenborg Rape all day at my desk.
