New to the forum and wanting to learn about Swedish snus:

Hello everyone!

I quit smoking a few years ago when a store near where I work started selling Camel Snus and Skoal Dry (no longer made). I think Austin was one of the test markets for the Camel Snus, so we've had them available here for quite awhile.

I've talked to other "Snusers" recently and they seemed downright appalled that I like Camel Snus and have never tried any of the Swedish ones. They tell me that the Camels are inferior, loaded with sugar, and have more adverse health effects. I had no idea

So, I guess it's time for me to try the "real" snus for once. What do you recommend for someone who has used Camel Snus Frost for the last few years? I like the minty taste and I like the smaller pouches. Any recommendations are most-appreciated!

I don't like minty snus but thunder frosted seems to be very popular.

Consider expanding your horizons and trying new sizes and flavors. If all you want is a Camel Frost replacement, you're going to be missing out on a lot.

New to snus

General Mini Mint Portions are similar to Camel Frost but taste a bit better so you might want to start there. You may also throw in a can of General Original Portions in with your order so you can get a good idea of what standard Swedish snus is. You can order both of those at getsnus.com

If you can spring for it, they also have some pretty nice samplers there as well.

I second what Snusophile and GoVegan said. The key is to try a variety of different types of snus. Get some mint minis but also throw in a can of General, maybe some Ettan, Roda, Gotlands yellow, Goteborgs Rape.

For your first few orders, the key is to expose yourself to a wide range of what is out there. Some brands that you just knew you were going to love will disappoint you and some you bought with low expectations will become your favorites.

Also don’t throw anything away just yet. If you don’t like it seal it up and stick it in the freezer. Go back to and retry it in a few months. Your taste will change and become more refined. It’s kind of like you are moving from wine-in-a-box to drinking a glass of reserve vintage from a world class vineyard. At first you will not be able to pick out all that is going on. But eventually your pallet will develop and you will be able to detect and appreciate more.

Hi jread! You might also try the Catch minis, eucalyptus or licorice if either one of those sound appealing. Those you can order from getsnus.com.

01 portions might be worth a try. They aren't minty and not actually small, but they are a long, thin portion you might find comfortable, and they're agreeable in flavor, some people really like them. It would be closer to a "traditional" snus, although they have a flavor all their own.

General is definitely worth a try! Be sure to try the minis (the white minis are quite fine, drier than the original portion General minis, but also out of stock at getsnus.com at the moment). These are in addition to the dry mini mints, which I'm sure you will try, but don't miss the non-sweet ones with the traditional General taste, tobacco, bergamot and a bit "peppery".

I've gotten into the Taboca strong minis recently. You'd need to order those from Sweden, with buysnus.com having the better price at the moment. They have a slight fig overtone. I personally like them a great deal.

I definitely second the Thunder frosted minis, although they're going to be stronger than the other minis.

And I still have a tin of the camel frost leftover and find myself rarely reaching for it = like 1 or 2 portions per week & only for an "After dinner Mint", Hell I have to remind myself to not start chewing on the damn thing and trying to swallow it! :lol:

i also came from camel, i like frost, but was more into the mellow. basically id suggest trying new things than just mint, as mint is nice but more traditional snus in the long run i think is more pleasant. first order suggestion:

catch eucalyptus
general mini mint
general
roda lacket
ettan

5 cans you can get at getnsus, and they will throw in a mystery can.

those are all swedish match, i know, but i feel thats a good base to start from. maybe throw in some 01, i really love the stuff.
