Los with a less 'mud like' texture?

As per my post in another thread, this past weekend I have finally tried my first los being the Roda Lacket as it was described elsewhere as one of the best to bake for a los-newb.

Anyhoo, my experience now with los is a bit tarnished whilst I had no problem handbaking a nice pris, the flavor just didn't seem to hit that well to me - maybe it was just this brand as I haven't even tried it in portion although the Claq Qui isn't bad. Also I notice I tend to squeeze / attempt to play with it a little trying to get flavor promoting a bit of a mudslide as it ends up caking in my teeth and breaking up by the 1 hr mark.

Some portion brands I prefer so far are: General ES, Oden's ES, and Skruf Stark. Do any of these have a more substantial texture or do they end up like packing "mud"? How do their los's compare to the portions regarding the flavor?

PS: I'm still not giving up on the Roda Lacket los and keep it in my fridge to continue practicing with as I realize I might just be baking wrong along with knowing with snus already, not to rule out how the taste first hits as this will likely change with time.

PSS: And if it helps any, just a reminder that I am an ex-Copenhagen dipper so my relation of the los snus texture is probably biased a bit towards this when comparing.

I find most loss is clay-like, but it does get muddy when wet. Seems to me, it's all similar in texture. I've got some Phantom brown open now, and in the past I have used Ettan, Grov, Roda, Odens Kanel, Offroad Cranberry.... actually, I think the V2 loose is less mud-like than the Swedish Match los.

      LaZeR,

Give any of the Phantoms a try
      Skruf
Gotlands (though Gotlands changed their grind and it is not quite as corse as it once was- still not mud)

Kronan and Odens are on the opposite side of the spectrum- to me they tend to be crumbly and very hard to bake (pinch and toss or a tool will be your best bet with these two)

      Hope this helps,
      dog

By the way my wife is from the Harrisburg area. Beautiful country up there.

I love the texture of Kronan under my lip. I love it like mad. As soon as this Probe portion gets through pleasuring me, I'm flying to the fridge for my can of Kronan lös and my nice, chilly icetool.

As far as the flavor thing, it seems the hard to handbake it, the longer it takes for the flavors to come out. You have to find that happy medium of not getting a mudslide/not a hard little rock.

            LaZeR -

Are you handbaking or using an Icetool?

With an Icetool, I think I've had maybe 2 or 3 come apart, very little to no mudslide.

The one I like the best in terms of staying together is Prima Fint. It forms the most perfect pris, and has never fallen apart for me. And the flavor is great, too

I never thought of keeping the Icetool in the fridge. Does it cause shrinkage?

Well, metal does contract when cooled. This is a good thing, as my tool is almost too big to be useful.

Seriously, I stole the idea from lxskllr.

Just handbaking. I want to make sure I appreciate los enough to invest in an icetool. I know they have that other thingamajjiger for like $2, but playing around with tobacco in my hand doesn't bother me being an ex-dipper.

Reminds me of an old joke I heard. A girl told a guy that she wanted him to give her 12" until it hurts. He said he would do it to her twice and hit her in the head with a brick.

3 years later, I still think the flavor of los doesn't come close to the flavor I get from portions. Sorry, just the way it is

                        LaZeR,

One thing I forgot to mention is that Roda and Prima, while easy to bake, also tend to slide more than others. They also tend to be on the mild side. All the brands I mentioned above are stronger in flavor and are not prone to slide.

Also, a while back I posted a thread especially for dippers (being an x-dipper myself). It's called "A Dipper's Guide to Snus". You might find some of the info that folks have posted there helpful. You can check it out here:

Thanks, you hit the nail on the head with the "slide". That's what I meant really as far as the eventual mudslide and the caked in my upper teeth. It never so much as broke apart or spread throughout my mouth, rather it just seemed to take off and "pack" itself in and around my partial plate which in itself was a pain in the ass as I not only had to brush my teeth afterwards but take my damn partial out and soak it in efferdent.

I'll have to re-visit that "dippers guide..." Remembering that was my first thread I ever scanned through before signing on here. - great work!

And I did just add a can of Skruf Sterk los to my pending order @ Getsnus since so far Skruf Sterk portion has been one of my all around fav.s with regards to the nicotine & flavor balance.

If you like Skruff Stark potions that would be a good los to try. It packs well. For a buck or two a prismaster will pack it tighter than you may be able to with your hand. Long term though Icetool is awesome.

I think you will really like the Skruf

If you have not placed that order yet throw in a can of Phantom blue. Nic is standard, flavor great, and cut will be more what you are looking for. Also its cheep so no big risk

I applaud you all in your efforts to become smoke free. However, I have come to snus by a different rout and so I want to share my experiences with all those x-dippers who may be looking at this site for suggestions and direction to get started.
