    wore me out..

i had a General Dry Mint Portion in for over an hour last night, and it made me a tad sore in that area... is this true for all snus portions or just this particular one?

I remember getting a bit sore after my first few portions. The fact that it is a white, and thus dryer, may play a part--the artificial sweetener, absent from most snus, may, too. But I think the biggest factor is just being new to snus. It will most likely stop happening once your mouth gets used to it.

All true words. It takes a little time to get used to the salt in snus. I still switch sides every other snus.

opps.........I thought this thread was about my wife.

yea, I switch sides every other snus also.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Yes. Stay away from the "whites" for now and try some regular portions (moister) until your gums get acclimated better to snus.

If you're liking the mint, maybe try Thunder Frosted Mini or Thunder Frosted (which is much stronger than what you're using now - why I suggest minis). Those are original portions, you can try those out.

That being said, don't close your mind on just flavored snus! Snus is cheap, explore as much as you can. Verily I say unto you, before the cock crows three times you will try every kind of snus there is out there, I think we all go through it, we all went through it, and you'll more than likely do it too. Keep an open mind, and try everything.

Welcome to the forum, by the way, haven't had the chance to say hey yet.

Justr keep using. Anything really, you just need to give your body time to acclimate. I promise, in a month, you will never notice.

thanks, trying a general original portion now... bit salty, but i like the tobacco flavor...

do you treat it a bit like gum? leave it in till the flavor is gone? I've noticed that much after an hour, it seems like the nicotine intensifies and i get a bit "swimmy"

Mint and wintergreen portions tend to be very burny starting out. Aside from that, I had a fair bit of irritation for three or four days when I first started out but it went away nicely (without ever taking a break).

Original portions were comfortable in the beginning for me, and some of the saltiest (Onyx comes to mind) seem more irritating than others if chained.

Definitely switch sides from time to time, especially at first.

Since we are discussing worn gums. Is is possible for your gums to start receding after using snus for a little more than 2 months? My gums are starting to hurt more lately and it almost looks like they have gone up in the front. I just started using white portions and a lot of mini mints for the last couple of weeks but it does seem to be taking a heavier toll on my gums compared to the original portions. Can purified snus cause gums to recede and is their a snus out there, preferably a mini portion, that is gentler on the gums? I love using snus but I don't want cadaver gums. I am also wonder if snus can just be alternated to the lower lip from time to time.

Everyone seems different in that regard. Some people get significant recession, others none at all. I got some mild recession at first, but it seems to have stabilized. Studies indicate that portions are less likely to cause recession than lös, but I find them more irritating to use. In any any, better rotten mouth than rotten lungs. You can fix mouth rot; lungs not so much.

Thanks for that reminder and you make an excellent point about lungs not being so easy to fix!

The soreness will go away. Your princess gums just need to toughen up a bit.

Seriously though, Mine wentaway after a couple weeks.

I already have recession, 30+ years of smoking and skipped a few years of dental visits (never again). Been using snus now for about a month and so far the dentist says my gums look much better. Seeing him again next week for fillings and I am curious what he is going to say about my gums then. My feeling is that as long as you keep up with dental visits, brush, floss, etc you'll be OK. Of course I may retract that next week! Hope not, first time that I have gone this long not smoking since I was 16.
