first time snuser with a question about the taste

hey guys. first time poster, first time snuser. ive dipped skoal long cut in various flavors for about a year now, and pouches when working, and im very excited to swtich over to snus. cant help but love the fact you get the nicotine intake, minus the crap in your mouth (healthwise). i ordered the "top 10" snus portion box from northerner.com. just a question about the taste. frankly, it tastes like cat piss with alot of salt thrown in (not that ive ever tasted it). the brands ive had so far were general portion, skruf stark portion, and nick and johnny portions. first off, they all taste the same. the smell is also horriffic. im not knocking snusing at all, as i would love to continue. but i was wondering if i just dont have a taste for it yet. or if there is a possibilty i have bad snus? they havent passed the expiration date yet, and i have them in my car (35 degrees here in jersey). please help! im a motivated new time snuser, and maybe i just have to give it time. i read a comment that snusing at first is like the first beer as a teenager: it sucks, but eventually, you crave the taste.

You're exactly right; you have to give it time. Give it a week to ten days, and that's only the beginning, really.

Your snus is fine. The flavor and scent can be off-putting for newcomers. It smells a little funny, and if you aren't used to the salt, that's about all you taste. After awhile you'll start to discern the flavors of the different snuses, and they won't taste as salty to you. The flavoring's more subtle than American dip, and in many cases is more complicated. You should be able to see what it's really about after a couple of weeks.

Welcome and what they both said. I just started snus'in about 2 months ago and I'm still aquiring my tastes and finding some that I first didn't like, I now like. The salt is overpowering the experience for you atm. This will fade with time and the true flavors will be appreciated.

Might wanna give some "mint" type flavors a try for now since you are coming off skoal as this might let you adjust a bit quicker and start appreciating the differences coming off flavored American dip to snus.

As others have said, you just need to give it a little time. Specifically, your body simply needs a week or to to acclimate to the salt. The first few weeks, that is all you taste. But soon, that will start to change, and in a couple of weeks, you will finally begin to taste how it really tastes. Today, it is just the salt mostly

Same here bro. Still fighting my way through the salty desert of Snus. Won't be long now though. Starting to pick out that yummy cranberry in Skruf Tranbar...Mmmmm. Hot damn, where did I put that can?!

thanks everyone, i wont be going anywhere. despite the taste so far, i already love this stuff. had a skruf stark portion today during a long boring accounting class. nothing better than being able to get my nicotine buzz without trying to secretly spit in a cup or avoid the golf ball sized pinch in my lip from being seen (dipping isnt common at all here in central jersey)

it's been about a week for me, and i'm just now coming into it.. at first it was sore enough to make me think maybe something was wrong, now i almost forget it's there... finding the "right spot" is pretty big too, mine is almost dead center, just slightly to the right or left. much over my canines, and it rubs too much

I hear ya on snus like General tasting bad at first. I've been snus'in for a few months, and can still barely stand general's flavor. Get yourself a few cans (or rolls) of mint or fruit flavored snus (like ice fruit) until you get used to that distinct "cat piss" flavor.

consider yourself lucky. first "real" snus i had was tourney about a year and a half ago. looking back, a general portion wouldve been a godsend. i just thought i was a pussy.

I'd keep a bottle of water handy at first it will dissipate the salt and 'cat piss' flavor until you get used to it. Dip probably tasted bad to you when you first tried it, cigarettes and whiskey too. Once you associate the taste with the relief from nicotine withdrawal you will come to love it.

Take a can of lössnus add about 150mgs of salmiak (ammonium chloride) stir it up real good and pop it the microwave for about 20-30 seconds = instant cat piss :twisted:
