Snus that tastes like American Chewing Tobacco?

    1. Are there any Swedish Snus brands that taste similar to American chewing tobacco brands like Redman or Levi Garrett?

    2. Are there any brands of chewing tobacco similar to Redman or Levi Garrett that have been processed via steam pasteurization like Swedish Snus and not air cured as American smokeless tobaccos normally are?

    1. Sadly, no, not really. I hear some compare Roda Lacket to Beechnut though.

    2. The only products that involve any form of pasteurization will be those produced by Pinkerton Tobacco. Their website: "The tobacco leaves are heated with steam so that when the stems are removed the leaf is not damaged."

They still involve fermentation, but pasteurization is involved at some point, so lower TSNA than other products, but still not as safe as snus.

Also, one note, a lot of snus products are air cured. The main issue is pasteurization or fermentation, not air/sun cured.

Thanks for the explanation! I’ve been experimenting with different chewing tobaccos and have really come to love the dark tobacco flavor of Redman. I can pick up some chocolate and am guessing they are using burley as the main leaf in this product. It smells like a cigar to me and I love that. Buuut, I’m leery about allowing chewing tobacco to be something that I use regularly because of the increased risks associated with it. It is so dang good!

        Hi Chad,

I ended up putting in an order which included Ettan and Grov in white and original portions. I thought the Ettan white was fairly bland and reminded me of General Mint without the mint and sweetener. The op, on the other hand really did come pretty close to the flavor that I get out of Redman sans the molasses (I pick up chocolaty notes when chewing Redman.). After I had it in for a while and the flavor mellowed out considerably, it almost reminded me of Camel Mellow without that cloying sweetness that they add.

Interestingly, in one of the reviews that you did on Grov, you mentioned its robust taste two or three times. For some reason, that left me with the idea that it was going to taste like Camel Robust (sans the sweetness), which I find to be absolutely revolting. When I opened up the can of OP and gave it a good sniff, the smell was a dead ringer for Camel Robust. I just tried it and took it out because it tasted like I imagined. I pick up the flavor of concentrated dried flowers. aka potpourri, and it carried a level of bitterness that I just can't deal with. I'm unsure how much my tastes will continue to change, so I might just pop it in a freezer bag and keep it in the freezer for a retry later.

Anyways, thanks for the reviews you do on YouTube. You do a a great job with them!Hi Chad
