    First Lös Order

Well I just ordered my first lös yesterday. Thought I would see if I like it. I ordered one can each of Ettan, Roda Lacket, and General plus a Prismaster.

Also it was my first order from Snus.com so I will see how fast it gets here and report back once I have tried it. I will immediately freeze the Roda and General and try the Ettan first, if I don't like lös I will donate to a worthy cause.

Sounds like a good plan. Ettan is a fine first choice!

Those are good choices but, I would suggest you also try a coarser grind if you don't like the way those are to wrangle in your lip. Coarser grinds tend to slide less and are easier to start with imo.

Also, Offroad los, while not my cup of tea on mouth feel, are the easiest to bake, have very good flavor, and hold the pris shape forever.

Very nice line up CG. I also agree with mike to work a coarser grind in at some point. I would reccomend either Skruf of Phantom Blue. Both are full flavored and easy to manage.

        Keep us posted.

Thanks for the tips guys, I like Skruf so I will probably add it to the line up.

OK so I figured while I was waiting for my Snus.com los order I would pop over to the local tobacco store and grab a General loose.

So, how dry or wet should los be? I tried following one of the youtube videos to hand bake (since my prismaster isn't here yet) but I can't get it to stay together. It just breaks apart.

So how wet or dry is normal and also how tightly should I pack it?

              Thanks in advance.

Hi CG. It should be moist, but not dripping, although if you squeeze fresh los tightly enough, you will get some liquid. There's usually a little moisture on my hand after I bake a pris, but not much, because it's important not to use too much pressure. If you try to really squeeze it tight it will tend to fracture and crumble, which might be happening with you. All you're really after is getting it to where it will stay together. Try using really light pressure as you bake. Holding the hand together for an extra beat seems to help sometimes, too.

edit: and i should add, if this doesn't seem to quite work, then try using a little more pressure. It takes a certain amount, but it isn't what I'd call heavy pressure. The optimal pressure probably varies a little from snus to snus. It just takes a little practice, and once you stumble on what you're after, it rapidly gets easier.

It should be moist, kinda between wet and dry where if you squeeze a pinch really hard you will get a little brown liquid on your fingers but not by just touching it. Dry will be a lighter brown color as opposed to a deep rich "fresh dirt" look.

I bake by taking a pinch, squeezing it rather tight once to get it to stick and then loosely forming it with even pressure around the entire pris. It's kinda something you gotta do by feel.

If its too frustrating for now, just hilbilly a pinch and see if that does it for you.

Coder, i have only been into los for about a month and my first few days of handbaking were .... interesting. I got a prismaster with my getsnus sampler and rarely use it now, except for real fine grinds.

As for mositure it should be moist yeah. As for how much, hmmm can't really answer that one.

When starting on handbaking I'd recommend starting with a smaller pris. Also don't be afraid to really give it a good squeeze to get a pris started. I found that if i squeeze until i just start to get some juice out of it, then shape gently seems to work for me. Don't faff around with it too much either, it'll just fall apart.

Good luck, and stick with it, you'll get it figured out.

Thanks guys for the quick responses and tips.

It sounds like the moisture level is correct. I am seeing some liquid if I pinch hard, and it's dark in color and dirt like.

I guess it really is an artform. I will experiment with different levels of pressure. I have plenty of portions and my prismaster is on the way so I have time to learn.

OK got one baked and have it in.

Just had to figure out how much to use and how much pressure to apply. I was forming it right to begin with but then applying too much pressure in the final shaping stage causing to break apart. I am surprised how well it stays together once it is in place.

Interesting. Stronger in comparison to white portions. Lot more flavor too. The General lös tastes much better than General white portion. I really like the smell of it as well.

I usually leave portions in about 2-3 hours, I will see how long I can leave this in.

                          Again thanks for the tips.
