it depends. remember the cravings are caused by triggers like finishing lunch, being on break, etc. i snus during different times than i smoked. for example. i would smoke in between my morning classes, but i dont start snusing until after lunch, so the craving can be for a cig if a class just finished or it can be for snus if lunch just finished. you will have cravings for both, although after a while the cig cravings do become weaker and weaker until all you have are snus cravings. the snus cravings aren't too bad, mind you, they are actually very mild.

I have had the experience of not smoking for over a year using snus and dip since then and then trying a cigarette a few weeks ago.

I can no longer enjoy a cig, my lungs could not take it. It made me feel sick. So I am safe in the knowledge now that cigs are so alien to my body that I could never enjoy them again.

As far as snus craving goes, I never crave snus, I never have one out of mouth whilst I am awake.

Since I am the only person who posted who has actual experience quitting snus after using snus to leave cigarettes, I think I gave you the answer. I craved snus, not cigarettes. And the cravings, and everything else that went along with it was as hard, if not even harder a bit, than when I have quit cigarettes cold turkey in the past. People who say it is easy are either lying, or haven't actually done it themselves and are just guessing

Unless someone has actually quit snus cold turkey, and not replaced it with other nicotine, thy really don't have a clue. I did, and I craved snus.

This is what bottledwater said ""i didnt really smoke much unless i was partying, etc." So he is not a real smoker the way the rest of us that nursed 2 pack a day habits for years are smokers. Trust me, you are a true nicotine addict, quitting snus is NO easier than anything else

        Next question??

I gave up cigs nearly a year ago now and then I gave up snus (and e-cigs & snuff) back in October last year so I've been totally nictotine free for three months now. I would agree that coming off snus was far easier than cigs in fact I'd go as far as to say that coming off snus was easier than transferring from cigs to snus (and the other alternatives). There is something peculiar about the intensity of addiction with cigarettes I feel.

Anyway, now-a-days I don't get cravings at all for anything but what I do get - every now and then - is the action to reach out and pick up a cigarette (that isn't there). And then I realise that I don't smoke anymore and that's the end of it other than a small sob for a past life! I don't however accidentally go to put a snus in, it's like I've forgotten that I ever did that. Not so with cigarettes however...

Congratulations :^) Are you finished with nicotine, or do you see yourself picking it up occasionally?

I quit smoking for a year once and remember craving cigarettes every single day. One day, I had a few "social" cigs with some friends and found myself buying a pack on the way home. I went right back to a pack a day in no time. Quitting seems very different when you use snus. I crave a smoke maybe once or twice a month and they taste awful now when I do try one. I can never picture myself going back to smoking now. It's $6.00 for a pack of smokes and they taste awful. Snus is way cheaper and I can use it anywhere which is cool!

Thanks but it wasn't actually by choice at the time - I was forced to give up rather abruptly for medical reasons and I've just never picked it up again.

On the one hand I'm kind of happy to be "free" (which was my long term goal anyway) but on the other hand I'm less than happy that I've turned into a big fat buffalo having put on nearly 20 pounds since giving up!

I'm thinking of taking snus up again but if I do it won't be for any craving reasons but rather for nicotine's excellent appetite suppresant abilities. Although I'm somewhat anxious about opening the nicotine door again.
I don't see me ever going back to smoking on the bright side.

I smoked from the time I was in 7th grade (12 years old) until about a year and half ago (i'm 32 in july). Although that includes 5 other quit attempts over the last 4-5 years, two of which lasted 8 months or so.

Cigarettes are totally and completely an impossibility now. Not only for the health reasons, but the for the prices they are now. If i ever quit snus, I believe I will crave another snus. If that happens, I may be able to put it off using some nasal snuff to smooth over heavy nicotine withdrawal moments.

But never, EVER, going back to a cigarette. I have the very occasional cigar, but I don't inhale even those and only smoke the ones that smell so good, you'd think it was incense.

I have to agree with you. Even if I wanted to smoke now, at over $6.00 a pack, I couldn't afford to. I noticed that a lot of store around here no longer sell cartons anymore. Just the single packs.

i started smoking when i was a little kid. my baby sitter used to give me cigs, watch me smoke and think it was funny. i don't remember the first cig i ever smoked. i will be 50 years old this year.

making it a short(er) story i smoked like a 1950 station wagon. The last few years camel non filters where my brand. I tried all the normal ways to quit and failed.

i tried snus for the first time about four years ago. I knew after i had finished the first can i had found my weapon. I cut down on cigs and upped the snus until i was no longer smoking.

When I first stopped smoking all together i did still think about smoking some. The longer I did not smoke the less i thought about cigs. I would say that after about 2-3 months of being smokeless i quit thinking about cigs all together.

Do i *ever* think about smoking now? Every once in a while but it's not the nic cravings that cause the thoughts. I may see someone smoking on TV and for a few seconds want one. it's not like before, it's more of just a thought and easily pushed from my mind without any "discomfort".

The question I started asking myself after I stopped smoking was could I quit snus if i wanted.

I would force myself to not use any snus for hours at a time to make sure how i could handle it. I did that so long that i just kept doing it everyday. So now for a few hours a day i just don't do any snus. YES the cravings get rough but they never make me want a cig.

i still use snus but i can see myself quitting it at some point. i would have to ease myself off it but for me quitting snus compared to cigs would be about 1/20th as hard.
