Welcome Snusmun, just don't be too quick to judge. It will be amazing to see how much your tastes will shift the longer you use snus. The stuff you hate today could end up being your favorites 6 months from now.

Thanks for the welcome!! And I'm really trying not to prejudge too much. From what I've read there is quite a bit of evolution in peoples tastes. I'm assuming that will happen with me too. I normally dislike sweets in general and love lots of salt and pepper on my palate...but for some reason the salt in the snus is a little repulsive....for now. But the ammonia thing I'm not sure I'll be able to get over. Time will tell, but salt and ammonia together tastes like I'd imagine a douche tasting....better new than used however! :shock:

Hmmmm...don't see any Nick & Johnny in there. I think you'll like that one based on what you wrote. (it is a sterk though and I noticed that you picked only one of those. Don't get too attached to Claq Qui - discontinued)

I think you'll find Ettan and Grov best though General is reportedly No1 for a reason.

All in all a good sampler set (except for the Skruf Cranberry...me no like)

I have found over the past 3 months that I was totally into flavored snus and now I love the traditional flavored ones, not heavy flavors like before. To me there is only one flavored snus THUNDER FROSTED. But that is just me.

I really need to place another order soon, looking at yours made my mouth water!

Welcome to SnusOn. If you like the shape of the Camels, you might wanna try the Lab Series. 01 and 02 are shaped more like the Camel.

Hey Christi, I am beginning to feel this exact same way. Thunder Frost (the only Thunder I like) is my go to snus. When I really need that fix for a craving, a Frost goes in, and I usually start my day with a Frost as well. But almost all of the other snus I am beginning to love are the non flavored snus. Ettan (although that does have smoky flavoring), Grov black, Onyx, and Lab 02. I love that although unflavored, the Grov and Onyx are very STRONG in flavor, and they last a long time.

I am beginning to really love the General White Wintergreen though. I absolutely hated them in the foil sample packs. But I got a can as a mystery can, and find I use at least 2 portions a day. I LOVE the soft portion material (softest i have encountered), I love that it produces the least amount of brown juice in my mouth as any snus I have tried, and I love the wintergreen taste. Not too strong or overpowering, but man, the flavor stays as long as I have it in my mouth.

So for now, its Thunder Frost and General White Wintergreen for flavored snus, and Grov Black, Onyx, Ettan, and Lab 02 for non flavored.

But I have about 50 cans in my freezer, so I still have lots left to try.

To the OP, sorry to thread jack. Back on topic. You did good in that order, lots of selection. Do not give up on anything right away. If you don't like it at first, seal it up, throw it in the freezer, and revisit down the line. Your tastes will change, no matter how much you think they won't.

Welcome to the forum snusmun. Glad to have you.

As you said your taste will evolve. As far as the ammonia thing, it simply means that you have really fresh snus. The smell will dissipate in a very short amount of time. In fact, I order in bulk now and freeze the order once it arrives, by the time I thaw it for use, the ammonia thing is gone.

In the meantime though, just let the can breathe for a bit, it should get progressively better once it is opened.

Hello and welcome to snuson. Everyone here is very friendly as I am sure you have already discovered. Let us know if you have any questions or need advice as many people are very willing to offer up their opinions on the personal favorites.

I also am assuming that I'm going to like Ettan and Grov alot...from what I've read they seem closest to pure tobacco flavors. (Besides the maybe the monte and R&J, which will be fun to try someday). I gather that the Thunder Frosted is hugely popular! That will definitely be in my next order...but I do want to be relatively careful about getting hooked on sterks....8 mg seems like plenty for a single portion (The info put out there on nic absorbtion seems incomplete at best, so I'm going to assume for now a 50% intake, = 4 mg, = about 4 cigs.....But that's for another thread) I did order a box of 01, as that portion shape seems appealing....the flavor is supposed to be pretty good too....man I can't wait to get these....I'm sitting here sucking on a camel, ack, since I ran out of general mini mints....

Regarding the ammonia. I've read a lot of conflicting opinions on this, from the snus is old, to the snus is new, to the tobacco is cheap quality, to it's just a natural by-product of the snus manufacture. Seems it is common to some brands, but not consistently, and absent in other brands. Not sure what to think at this point, but I do know that for now it's something that I really don't like. The box of general white that I got at a local store didn't just have a hint of ammonia like the mini mints or the los, it absolutely reaks. I'm hoping that is not normal!

I really don't think I've ever noticed any amonia smell in snus. Maybe it's just my nose.

Well the first order arrived today, yippee

Order placed through BuySnus on Wed. 3rd at night, shipped on the 4th, arrived NorCal today the 10th. 7 days from Sweden....not bad at all for the $4.35 shipping charges!!!!!

So I opened all 7 to get an initial impression on the smell, since this is my first real set of fresh boxes straight from snusland. Ettan OP smells fantastic, rich tobacco and NO hint of ammonia smell at all. General mini mint smells fantastic, with no detectable ammonia smell either, unlike the box I bought locally. The other 5 all have some ammonia smell. General mini white is the strongest, which is interesting because that was the one I got here, but in regular white portions, that smelled so horrible. The others have a hint of ammonia, but are not so strong as to be repulsive. General mini, Gote Rape mini (yummy juniper!), Tre ankare mini (herby), and the 01 (not good smell, not bad smell). Got a Tre ankare in right now....first good nic hit of the day...taste is mellow...can really taste the salt though, even at 3%. overall I like. Guess I just need to avoid the General Whites for now.

For me the smell is part of the experience....as taste is very much intertwined with smell....and if something smells bad to you, it's usually your body telling you not to ingest something. Fish sauce is a perfect example :lol: Man that Ettan smells awesome...that's up next.
