    phantom classic-bulletproof

i can't outlast this stuff...it's like it doesn't even come alive for a while, then it's so subtle.
drove from southern oregon to sactown today with the same prilla in the whole time.
never faltered...feels like my upper lip is stretched out though.
and i have to admit i feel like a chimunk walking around with a upper lipper in...small price to pay though.
what is a snus that is known to be hard to pack/drip? so i can avoid it.
if there wasn't so many other great flavors i'd never leave phantom

They all have positives and negatives. Röda Lacket, and Göteborgs Prima Fint all have a tendency to fall apart due to the fine grind, but it isn't that big a deal, at least for me. I just eat the snus that falls, and go on with business. I probably spit out 25%-50% of the snus I put in. The rest disappears :^D

Phantom is one of the better ones for staying together. The coarse grind helps in keeping it in place.

General I'd call a solid medium grind. It stays together pretty well, but may fall some. My "problem" with many of the traditional snuses, is when I'm doing hard physical labor, I clench my lip and squash the pris. That makes the bits fall, but again, it's no big deal. I just eat the pieces, and spit out what's left when I'm finished.

Rookie? Not really. All the different styles have their aficionados, it depends on the user's preference. If there was a snus for rookies in Sweden, I'd guess it would be a fruit flavored portion. Someone from Sweden would have to chime in on that account though.

Personally, I prefer a coarser grind, but I'll use any snus that delivers the flavor I'm looking for.

try a can of ld los man it's a good one. I half bake with it all the time. Half baking is a term I've come up with for just molding a prilla in the can and maybe a few squeezes on the way to the lip.

That is a great point that I think gets lost on so many who try los for the first time. Los takes longer to develop. About the time you would be finishing a portion, los is just kicking in. The key (as someone over at the Dipper’s Guide put it- I think it may have been Mojo) is patience.

You might want to give Knox and Skruf a try. They are coarser, full flavored, brands that bake really well and hold up nicely.

I too really like Phantom Brown and Blue. They are both good all around brands and are a part of my regular rotation. I also love Roda but to me it is more difficult to manage for all the reasons lxskllr gave (though very easy to bake). Prima I just can’t taste—still after several revisits.

That said, if I had to have just one snus, it would be Skruf—not because it is my favorite but because it does so much well.

This doesn't make sense to me. How could tobacco outside of a portion take longer to kick in, than a portion. The los hits your gums directly, versus having to wait for the portion to get a bit wet and start soaking through.

Anyway, the main reason I disagree, is because I feel the effects of los WAYYY faster than a portion. Within 5 minutes i feel the nic from los kicking in, where with a portion, it takes 10 to 15 minutes. And the flavor of los kicks in immediately for me. So los acts faster for me than any portion I have tried.

i second the ld los recomendation, its a favorite of mine. i do like the portions too when i need a portion, working in fast food. i also say you gotta get some grov. its among the coarsest swedish match los ive had.

                          That is exactly it.

Sorry bout that BadAxe, I did not clarify.

However, even this is not a universal law. A whole lot depends on how tightly the pris is baked. Since newbies tend to try for pris perfection, they tend to bake things tighter. The result is a slower flavor release (it takes saliva longer to penetrate a tighter pris). Also remember that a portion is loose unpacked snus in a bag that is often moistened with tobacco flavored water. Saliva gets to and mixes with it faster.

On the other hand, a looser bake or placing the pris in the mouth where it gets more saliva will cause quicker taste release. Thus its not a law but more of a tendency.

That said this is one of the things I love about los. There are so many things that you can do to adjust and fine tune los for the exact need of the moment. I can bake loose, big, and place further back in the mouth for quicker flavor and nic. I can bake smaller, tighter, and place forward in the mouth for a longer lasting more economical snoose (or any countless combinations of the above). It’s like the difference between an automatic and manual focus camera. Anyway…

The reason I think that this point is important is that when someone tries los and says they cannot taste it, very often (not always but often) it is due to the bake. The problem is solved with just a little patience, giving the snus time to develop.

In time they will learn to adjust their bakes. But it is good to know both ends of the spectrum. It's good to know how to go long and let the snus develop. It's good to know how to pinch and toss and have the snus kick in at once.

Ooops, sorry guys. And yea, I agree about the flavor. Los flavors last as long as i keep the pris in.
