PACT: The push is still on

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Coalition to Stop Contraband Tobacco today praised the New York Association of Counties for passing a resolution calling for the federal government to support and implement the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT) Act of 2009, S. 1147.

The resolution, passed by NYSAC on Feb. 11, 2010, calls on Congress "to take any and all necessary action to insure the passage" of the PACT Act.

I really hate NY, such a bully nanny state. Everytime I see A post like this I panic and buy a ton more snus. They really don't care if all of us go back to smoking and that's just sad.

It's ALL about money. I believe they want all of us smoking.

They will just make those legal sales illegal. They think they can do whatever they want.

We are dealing with some of the most corrupt and arrogant people ever. This isn't just in the area of tobacco. These pigs at the trough won't ever satisfy their appetite to push people around and take their money.

I never thought I would become so militant minded at age 50. Thought I left that behind me in my twenties.

Guys, to be honest, I don't think this is an issue anymore.

With snus going into specialty tobacco shops around the country (V2), and Swedish Match's big push into the US, I'm sure we'll be just fine.

I freaked out last year when this was an issue, but I see the steps the companies, and certain retailers are taking to cover us on this.

and jonathon will need to worry about it.... at very least, each state he ships to will want their tobacco tax..

i'm personally looking into growing my own tobacco... each plant should yield 200g of snus if i'm doing the math right. 4 tins per plant, i use 4-8 a month.. 24 plants should cover me.

                  Yep. This ^^.

The sad part is, Uncle Sam and/or local state gov. is going to be pocketing 80% of the $7.

It seems it doesn't matter where you live in this world, we are all less and less free. The world has lost it's marbles and sometimes i want off this crazy ride.
At 42 I'm becoming more and more militant too

"The Big Push" is all fine and good but more than likely General will only offer what's in their trial pack and V2 will offer what, Thunder Frosted? That's an extremely limited selection when you look at what's available to us now.

I am not getting the doom here. Many companies sell on the internet and charge state taxes. If these companies (snus) derive enough income from the US they will comply. I quit smoking with snus and, no I will not like paying more, but I will in a heartbeat if I can get the same selection.
Learned a long time ago, accept things that I have no ability to change. Of course, if I can have just a slight chance to influence, stand aside.

                              Published: February 26, 2010

Gov. David Paterson of New York ....... at the helm of a big state in the midst of disruptive and tough times. There is an $8 billion hole in the state budget, which must be balanced by March 31....
State, local and county governemnts are going broke.
                              Tobacco = taxes
It's not a question of if.....it's a question of when.

PACT is not about banning tobacco...it's about taxing it.
