    Bergamot?

Joking with my wife the other day she said the only way I'd get her to try snus would be if there was a kind that tasted like Earl Grey tea and popcorn.. "Actually.." I've found two types that list bergamot, LD and Level. I was going to toss a can on my next order, sort of a gag gift. But I read on this forum that a lot of you don't like Level. How is LD? Or any suggestions on how to convert a wanting-to-quit smoker who is dubious of snus? She won't try the pomegranate, I already tried..

On BuySnus.com it says that the regular Skruf portion has "a taste of pure and mild tobacco with natural taste of bergamot and oil of roses." Now I've never tried Level, but from the things people say about it, the above would probably be a better bet.

      LD and Level
Ugh, no there are far better bergamot flavoured snuses. Göteborgs Rapé comes to mind as being vastly superior (though with other non-bergamot flavours as well), and Offroad original is **really** strongly flavoured with bergamot (love it or hate it). Knox is quite bergamot-y as well (but mediocre).

I really like the LD, Level can go to hell though  . The LD has so much bergamot that it's like having an Earl Gray teabag in your mouth LoL. It isn't something I'd want all of the time, but I liked it enough to buy a roll.

As to the popcorn...You're on your own there...

        Edit:
I have the standard Skruf as well, but the bergamot flavor isn't as pronounced. LD is definitely the one I'd recommend if somebody told me they wanted bergamot flavor. You can try the Skruf also. All of their products are of uniformly high quality, but the added flavors are much more subtle.

Bergamot (Bee balm, Oswego tea, Monarda didyma) is an herb related to the mint family. It has a flavor reminiscent of the Bergamot Orange. It is an American swamp plant that grows in the damp land around Lake Ontario. Used to make a fragrant tea in the United States (probably first made by the American Indians). Bergamot became popular in English gardens in the mid 1600's.

          = Yummy :!:

LD is good for the price but I find that it looses it's flavor a bit fast. I don't have the courage to try Level yet. I've heard too many bad things about it. I intend to try all brands and flavors at least once though, so eventually I'll get to it. I'm just not looking forward to it. :P

I find LD original to taste fine. It is VERY bergamot-y.

Anyways, yeah, Level. I heard it's the absolute worst. I actually wanted to try it but got won over by another can of something else I like. I knew it sucked, but I can appreciate brands that aren't 100% awesome. I just didn't want to waste the money yet either.
I think maybe the use of Level is good, insofar as it sets a standard that can't go any lower? perhaps make you appreciate the other snus you have that much more? Maybe it's low quality can be considered a 'bite' to mysteriously appreciate? Like how nasty Copenhagen is at first...

I have yet to find a snus to come close to being as bad as some dips.

I agree, I haven't found a snus yet that just tasted downright nasty like Copenhagen does when you first try it. Or worse, Copenhagen when it goes sour, or you get close to the bottom of the tin. It can get really bad then. The only reason I dipped Copenhagen for so long was because I couldn't find any other American dip that would give me the same nicotine fix.

Even for snus that I don't really care for that often, it still doesn't taste horrible. Gotlands Green for example, I like it sometimes, but most of the time I'm just not in the mood for the sour apple taste. But it still doesn't taste nasty. In fact, it tastes exactly the way it's suppose to.

With American dip, every time you buy a tin, you really don't know how it's going to taste. Kinda like playing Russian roulette on crack. (Instead of having the gun loaded with 1 bullet, it's loaded with a high powered bullet, a bb, a paint ball, a soft dart, disappearing ink, and a bang flag.) :P

hahaha...i know that feeling. skoal is about the best as far as dip goes, and it sucks ass. the other brands are just half ass most of the time. and the flavors of skoal, 'cherry', 'peach', 'apple', etc....don't exactly taste like what they're supposed to. i'd say the closest they've ever came is citrus, which does have a nice overall 'citrus' taste to it.
also as far as unflavored, i don't think i ever had a 'pure tobacco' taste from dip that didn't taste like it was dipped in burnt motor oil or something.

I'd say the closest to dip right now is Offroad long cut 'pure tobacco' (the only flavor i've tried so far of the two long cuts). That stuff is pretty rough. First of all, it's long cut. Second, it tastes not even half as good as the original offroad (which I like btw, but some people refer to offroad original as tasting like a urinal puck)...the only thing I had in my mind when I had offroad long cut in was the thought of something chemically, like a urinal puck, or dip. I have only tried it once. It probably can be enjoyed after a taste is acquired (but this is like the first time of using dip, so...), and I'm curious how much worse Level is than it.

I got a tin of Offroad Strong Cranberry portions as my surprise tin. After reading mixed stories from other people I was reluctant to try it, but it's actually pretty good. It doesn't taste like candy as I was expecting. The cranberry is more of a subtle essence instead of a main flavor. I rather enjoyed it. I still prefer Skruf Stark, but this is a nice change.

I still haven't tried Level yet. I will one day. When I do I'll post the results here. I'm not really looking forward to it though. :P
