So I found a tobacco store about an hour away from where I live that carries snus. I picked up a few cans of general los, portion and white portion, and I noticed that the best before dates were all either 9/09 or 12/90. The los looked pretty dry, but I rehydrated it with a moist piece of paper towel sandwiched in tin fold (with holes in it). I did the same with the portion. The los was pretty difficult to form into a pris. The portions were alright but I suspect they were in the same shape as the los. I didn't feel like I was getting much from the los, though there was some flavor from the portions.
I have since tried some los and portions from getsnus.com, and noticed a marked difference from the cans I bought from the store. I hate wasting tobacco, but should I just toss the store-bought stuff? Can snus get to a point where it's just too dried out to be enjoyable?
