Toss it when it starts to drip? What?

I just ran across this blog, where some political activist talks about the "wonders" of Camel "SNUS". If you look at the next to last comment, some dude from Norway makes this statement:

I've seen this statement in other places, just always thought the person stating it didn't know what the hell they were talking about.
But now that I think about it, Swedes only keep a snus in for 10-20 minutes, so is this how they really use it over there? Anyone from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, europe etc etc want to chime in here?

Myself, I love the drip, thats one of the best parts about snus. When it starts to drip, thats when it starts gettin good!

I agree. The only time I had an issue with drip was my first couple times using Camel. Having ultra sweet tobacco juice going down my throat was hard on my stomach. I got used to it though, and I love it with the Swedish stuff.

drip = flavor imo. Snus is too good to leave in for less than 45 minutes

Non-mint flavored drip makes me want to throw up.

I guess the Scandinavians do have taste buds after all.

I usually tongue my portions the instant they're in my upper lip to make them juice quicker. The more juice, the more nicotine and flavor.

With all statements from Scandinavians (except for our forum members) we should keep in mind that snus is seen not much different there than dip is in America or traditional chewing tobacco is in the rest of Europe. That includes all myths (and even some really weird "snus-only-myths") and that includes the general belief that all oral tobacco requires spitting.

Also, Norway isn't Sweden. Snus is by far not as common in Norway, though it's gaining populartity at a very fast speed after all I've read, and according to the several "Norwegian" brands we've seen lately. I have one under the lip at the moment.

                Cheers!

That's just the dumbest thing I've read.

Really? Interesting. Not to derail the thread, but I always wondered how long our Scandinavian friends used a snus. I can see how I would go through a can every day or two instead of one a week if I were doing this. If it were more readily available, I might, but having to order the stuff and pay a premium for it is part of the reason I leave it in till it resembles a raisin.

I can understand the rationale, at some level, but if the low levels of carcinogens make snus safer in contact with the gum and lips, how would it not also make it safer in contact with the stomach/innards? I guess it could be unhealthy to have tobacco juice sitting in you stomach, if it messes with your digestive system. I don't really know, I don't get a whole hell of a lot of drip from anything I use.

Thats exactly what that post made me wonder. Is that the reason Scandinavians go through snus so much faster than us Americans?

Last time I spoke with Marc Vogel of V2, he told me he uses 3 cans of Thunder Frosted per day!

 If I owned / worked for V2 or SM i'd probably go through that much too!

I don't understand how you're supposed to taste anything without drip. Sometimes I'll even dip a portion in coffee for a split second just to get it going faster. I also tend to wiggle a portion against my gum now and then to extract delicious juices.

That's actually been my main problem with lös. You just place it there and forget about it, now and then picking up on a hint of flavor. Sometimes I can't resist the urge to prod at it out of habit, which always creates a mudslide.

Maybe I just got too used to portions.
