im assumeing shes talking about american dip, which isnt meant to be swalloed and isnt often swalloed. so could it be different for snus which is more so ingested... idk maybe i am wrong here?
I don't know, but probably you are not wrong. Snus being made differently from American dip, there is no useful parallel to be drawn from the effects of one as applies to the other. That is to say, a bunch of drip from fermented tobacco down the throat may have worse effects than a bunch of drip from non-fermented, pasteurized tobacco. Having said all that, the opinions of ppl from Norway and Sweden are worth considering when it comes to snus, and it kind of makes sense. Snus is about delivering nicotine (and flavor); it's not really intended to be a juice dispenser. The fact that some people enjoy the "drip" and equate it with flavor (well, it does have flavor) doesn't mean that's "how you're supposed to do it", or whatever. Maybe this is even one reason more ppl seem to prefer portions; IDK.

I hear the concerns, but I guess I just don't see how a snus goes from having a low harm threshold (in the lip) to becoming more harmful through the transference of tobacco into expectorant and then to the stomach. Wouldn't the low levels of TSNAs stay the same regardless? Sounds like something of an urban myth to me.

Either way, it would be interesting to hear from some of our Scandinavian forum members on this one.

I'm curious about this as well. IMO anything that comes in contact with our bodies on a regular basis has an effect to some degree. The problem that may be with snus juice is that we can't see the effects. I think it's safe to say that if you feel ill then you probably are ill from it. I don't think that there's enough juice to overpower our natural acids in our stomachs. I do worry about rogue pieces of los, however and usually dump the pris at the very beginnings of the slide. for me it's about 45 minutes for los. As a counter measure I make it a point to eat extra fiber. It might not have any benefit other than reducing the worry...and making that Sterk+Caffine result all the more productive.

That being said some people eat bugs n' stuff.

I'd be interested in hearing the Swedish perspective too.

i am so glad this is here. i was wondering about it and i asked someone and they made me feel stupid. it varies for me. i kinda like the drip on some of them, if they are too sweet, they get annoying after a minute. unflavored, i must have something to drink, but i was too wondering if it was ok to swallow (ok you can laugh). i generally do.

maybe the stomach acid does something to something else to make it more dangerous? idk im not a chemist but its probably plausible. probably.

im thinking as a parallel, think about smoking a cigar properly versus swallowing some of the smoke. i cant imagine the smoke doing as much or less damage in ma belly than it does in my mouth.

My opinion is .........that if it starts to drip its probably time to go to the doctor to get a shot.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Its just your HerpaGonarheaSyphilAids flaring up. Happens alot to men who wear rubber suits. Take some antibiotics, you'll be fine.

I'm uncommon in 2 ways- I prefer to lower-lip snus, and I spit.

The reason I use snus instead of dip(preferably) is that it doesn't make me need to spit right away, and if I can't for some reason, swallowing is fine.
I can taste it all over my mouth when I lower lip, and I get enough nicotine that way, so I don't see a reason to swallow.

though I don't make the rules for anyone else. I just agree that spitting(could be)an element of harm reduction. Yes, you can swallow your whole life and be fine, but if you don't then you don't even risk it.

i live in norway, i keep mine usually somewhere in between 15-25 mins. i toss them out before they start to drip because i'm afraid of stained teeth, i've seen it happen with someone i know. it has nothing to do with tobacco juice being bad for me or whatever
