Pennsylvania Snus'ers. The end of a good thing is coming. :(

Wednesday, March 24 2010 HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA -- The Keystone State's Democratic leaders say a controversial new tax could put $40,000.00 to work.

Pennsylvania is the only state in the union without a tax on smokeless tobacco products, and some lawmakers say now is the time to jump on the bandwagon. Senate Democrats are pushing the tax, saying the revenue could be put toward job creation initiatives.

According to supporters, the revenue would create temporary jobs in the service and non-profit fields and supply thousands of residents with paychecks over the next 2 years.

The tax may suck but the objective is what is scary.

If America does not find a way to produce things that others buy we are doomed. A service based economy is non-sustainable.

Notice then the troubling logic in PA: they are taxing a production industry (tobacco) in order to create jobs that not only don’t produce anything but actually exist solely to administer handouts to other non producers. Thus PA is in essence perpetuating the problem (along with the mentality behind the problem) at the expense of the solution.

O yea and it sucks because your snus has just gotten more expensive (or at least may become more expensive)

You hit the nail on the head Snusdog.

So many of these things that our fearless leaders are doing are SO far from what made our country great in the first place.

The money is not the issue here. I live in Taxachusetts so I could go on and on about money but there's a deeper rooted issue afoot here.

The shops wouldn't have to pay taxes on shipments to other states (before PACT). Instead, the buyer is supposed to pay that tax. That's how the shops in California and Texas can offer reasonable prices to other states but not their own. The snus shops must collect taxes on in-state sales.

However, depending how the law is written they may need to pay the tax upfront on inventory and then reclaim it after it's shipped out of state, which could tie up a bunch of scrilla.

So, PACT will make it more expensive at the shops. The possible PA tax will not... unless you live there or the snus shops charge us for the government tying up their money.
                    ---
                    Edited for clarity...

Don't worry. Once your state gets over-run with the liberals just like our wonderful US of A is as a whole, that will be soon to change. :x

Lol this is so true. We are going to end up only bringing in revenue from tourism pretty soon, we don't make anything anymore. The only reason we rocked after WWII is because we were the china of the time and manufactured everything, and even made GOOD QUALITY products, IMAGINE THAT!?

All this talk from this administration and other about creating jobs should be spotted as a farce from anyone with even a basic understanding of economics. Making government jobs doesn't produce wealth, manufacturing shit does. Selling stuff to other countries does. Consumer nation=broke nation.

Yep. Not to mention that 50% of online cigar vendors are in PA. A sad day indeed.
