How would you feel if you were a U.S. politician? Could you imagine a world where you couldn't enjoy a glass of absinthe and one of Fidel's finest hand-rolled turds of ecstacy. You all should feel terrible for the fine folks in office who only care about you and your children's health. I mean, they are working their poor fingers to the bone and racking their brains trying to make the world a better place. I for one feel that cbs will give this horrible thing known as snus the awful publicity it deserves. I am just glad that good ole' uncle hussein will show us the way to a better more healthy tobacco free lifestyle.
I am joking of course. They'll probably say it's as dangerous as skoal and ruin it for everyone. I'm sure if they have a so called "snus user" on the show, it'll be some guy with no jaw on his head.
On '60 Minutes' With Lesley Stahl: Snus – The Safer Cigarette?

Snus is a smokeless alternative to cigarettes. While Snus, which looks like a tea bag that’s placed in the mouth, is less harmful than real cigarettes, it still does damage. So should doctors encourage smokers to turn to Snus? It all comes down to an ethical question. Listen to my exclusive-for-wOw audio sneak preview.
I agree with what most others have said about the publicity in this thread as well. I guess being pretty new to using snus, I'm still in the "Wow, this stuff is incredible! I need to spread the word!" phase. Now that I'm acclimated to snusing in general, I can see why there might be some reluctance to bring it into the mainstream over here in the US. Once the media takes notice, we might as well rename snus to the "Tiger Woods of Tobacco" once they finish demonizing it.
I think it will be interesting to see if the 60 minutes story will present Swedish snus as a distinct, different type of product as Camel "snus" or if they'll equate the two types of products as being the same. From the preview clips, it's tough to tell whether that will actually be the case though.
I really don't think these guys or anyone else is going to point out that Swedish snus is different than the US stuff. These people think that snus was invented 2 years ago. Do you really think they're going to point out the fact that Swedish is the only tobacco product that lists the ingredients right on the back?

Thanks for the audio clip. The lady sounds pretty informed about harm reduction, but she makes a few mistakes about snus. For example, she claims "Snus has been available in Sweden since the 1980's."

Don't be such a hater. What's a couple hundred years in the end? Small details... :^D

Well from her understanding we are talking about portion snus so the 1980's isn't that far off.
If we start talking about loose then we start blurring the line between snus and dip in the eyes of people that know nothing about snus. Then we have to deal with all the baggage that comes with trying to explain why snus and dip are two different animals.
Who knows? It may turn out to where public interest goes up and we will see snus sold in regular stores for about the same price as skoal. I figure Swedish Match,"if they pursue the American market as heavily as they should" could become a heavy hitter in the "baccer market." But, people will probably think of it as some off-brand skoal and say it's not worth trying to switch. Think of it like Paris Hilton, one day your known about, the next day you are famous for a very exposing video.
When people present this "all you have done is traded one addiction for another" argument I become violently angry. What a load of shit. Don't demean what is essentially an arduous emotional and mental struggle by pretending it was effortless. Quitting cigs completely was difficult when I did it with snus and when I did it without. The primary benefit I see in snus, is that I will not begin smoking again. I find the especially insulting after having been a part of snuson, and seeing that one of the primary functions of this forum is as a support group for people making the switch. What a patronizing, ignorant, callous thing to say.
Much like trading the sticks for snus, I have also traded my coffee "addiction" for tea, and my walking "addiction" for a bicycle. Let's talk about why these actions are not legitimate because they are too much like the previous actions I was taking. Huh, stupid news lady? Or would you prefer to just be a mindless talking piece dedicated to the ignorance of the American people?
Additionally, I will never understand why people are so afraid of the word addiction. They steal the legitimacy of reasonable discourse on the topic by attributing a value (evil) to a state of being that can neither bare nor enact that value in any way. Its very biblical, when you think about it: you are bad for being alive, repent!
I'm sure if they have a so called "snus user" on the show, it'll be some guy with no jaw on his head.
It doesn't have to be that bad. It could also be a "snus-user" whose face and voice are electronically distorted... saying that friends made him try snus and now he's addicted to the stuff.
I just saw that on Swiss TV TSR1 (via internet). My French is very bad, so (luckily :lol I didn't understand everything.
