Not sure if has been said already in this thread I have not read every comment.

I watched the clip and feel it was loaded to support the anti tobacco nazi woman featured.

The video starts with a dude who is made to look like he smokes and snuses thus increasing his addiction.

After the show features swedish doctors highlighting the health benefits of snus the cliip concludes with the anti tobacco nazi woman saying she feels many will use smokeless tobacco in addiction to smoking and feels it does not stop people from smoking but will increase the risks of 2 addictions.

The show also states snus was introduced to sweden 30 years ago LOL.

all in all it gave the wrong message.

She's a paid governement leech being funded by the very thing she is fighting against. Your tax dollars at work.

i guess it was a good piece?

60 minutes did go out and find 2 extremes though

porn stache guy that smokes while snoosing

                and

anti tobacco lady, who uses the damned "the children" argument again - what about all the crap in processed food - there's the REAL HARM - get a clue fatty!

the Dr was the one who put it all in perspective - people are addicted to nicotine - provide a way for them to get what they need while reducing risk / harm - sounds like a win win to me...

Just watched it, it was ok.

You've got to remember that this is a US show, a country with some of the worst anti-tobacco nazis in the world, who would sue your ass all the way to Tijuana and back if they thought you were advertising tobacco.

With that in mind, they did give air-time to a respectable swedish scientist citing scientific research that Snus reduces harm by 90-99%, causes no mouth cancer and less pancreatic cancer than smoking. They also pointed out correctly that American companies are not allowed to use those FACTS to advertise their product, so they HAVE to use the "snus when you can't smoke" angle. This leads me to believe that they did their research fairly thouroughly.

And because they HAD to have somebody from the anti-tobacco lobby, they had a very unlikeable fat lady. She kinda reminded me of her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3mDLsyn6ns I also liked how her "science" was based on repeatedly saying "We don't know" and "They look like Tic-Tacs", which the clearly do not. If anything, they look like fisherman's friend. Also liked the blunder about candy being "made for us.. for the children". Looking at her girth, I think she eats more candy than 99% of kids.

The only downside was the "dual user". I mean, I've got nothing against the guy, he seemed ok and if that's how he wants to roll, I'm all for it. But he's not representative, I think, of most Snus users. Maybe he smoked 40 a day before and is now down to 20 and he may be in a transition period, where Snus will eventually replace cigarettes, but in any case, he gives people the wrong impression.

Ah well, that's the way the media are today, you've gotta be happy when they're at least giving you the facts, even with a slant.

The very worst thing I think there is about snus, and oral tobacco in general is gum wear. If I decide to quit, it will be because of this. But I believe it's not "tobacco", but anything laying on the gums would affect it, be it coffee grounds, or folded up napkin.

It would have been better if they included people with the facts - scientists for and against and not some fat gobsh!te.

I'm sure they would have liked to include scientists against Snus, but I'm betting they had a hard time finding one because there simply is not even a shred of evidence that switching from cigarettes to Snus isn't beneficial.

                          I agree
Nicotine boy is the official smear of this one. They could of easily found many Americans that have given up smoking to the Swedish and USA version of snus but they spend all the time on this total weirdo.

If I went back into time and I watched this as a smoker I definately think it would of opened my mind to snus.
