Last night, I had yet another portion of general white. This was a can i've been working on for a couple of days. The portion tasted terrible, like someone dragged it through a gas station parking lot and then threw it in my mouth. I know my palate was clean (i was drinking water for the past 2 hours). I'm having my morning snus (same kind, same can) and it tastes fine. Anyone else have this odd thing happen?
bad portion?

Yes, I've had that sort of thing happen, though maybe not to that degree.
I think that's why it's important to give snus a good try, at least half a can, maybe, before deciding if one likes it; and also give it another chance weeks or months down the road. As the vets here repeatedly say, snus can surprise you.

I know exactly what you are talking about, or I think I do.
During my first couple of months I found that every once in awhile I would stick a portion in and, depending on where it was in my mouth and how much food I had in my stomach, I would have an extremely adverse reaction. I think maybe it had something to do with acclimation for me, but about every 5-6 portions I used would juice up real bad, taste nasty and make me queeeeasy(extra es intended).
This happened primarily with drier portions (whites and dry regs.) I don't know what the eff was going on with that, but it has all but now disappeared now. Then again, I don't use many whites these days...

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply anything about you specifically; just the thought crossed my mind that someone new to snus might read over this, and wanted to point that out. I should have made that clear.Originally posted by ville123I've been using general whites for about 4 months now.
Anyway, I've been at it for a few months, and still get that every once in a while, certainly with General, which I've been using since the beginning. It seems like it can happen with op or wp or even los, strangely enough.

I've had 2 tins of General lös now that had a hint of wintergreen in the background, and I f'n despise wintergreen. The first one was a tin that broke during shipping, so I thought it had maybe shared some space with something wintergreen, and picked up a bit of flavor. The next tin from the same roll(but unbroken) had the same mild wintergreen back flavor. I then had a tin from a completely different roll, and there was no wintergreen whatsoever :^/ I'm not sure what's going on with that, but it's very strange.Originally posted by MojoQuestorIt seems like it can happen with op or wp or even los, strangely enough.

I think we might have to admit the fact that quality control is a bit spotty in the snus business. I currently have 4 different batches of OR coffe/van. Each batch is way different. Some wet some dry, some smooth some bitter, some pouches really full and others about half full etc. [but thats a machine calibration issue]. All the variables that there can be.... are. I think the actual mixing and flavoring vary somewhat with each batch and of course the tobacco can vary also.
The nice thing is that I like all 4 different batches but for different reasons, altho they each taste somewhat different.
Let face it......it must cost about nothing to make snus. We pay average $3.50 a tin, I would imagine the suppliers must pay about $1.50 a tin to the manufacturers. So the cost to the manufacturer for the actual product isn't much at all after the cost of making, packaging, promotion, etc. So, if they get the batch somewhat close to what its supposed to taste like then it gets shipped. Can't blame em tho.
Of course this is just my opinion.
maybe a manufacturer can clarify this for us.Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
