    Tin can corrosion

So I got some Romeo y Julieta portions, been stored and sealed in freezer. So I opened up some of the cans to try them, and there is some corrosion that seems like rust on the inside of the tins.

Should I be worried? Anyone had this experience before? Thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about it. It /could/ affect the flavor, but rust won't hurt you.

In the old days doctors told women who were pregnant to stick a nail in an apple, leave it in there for a day or two and then to eat the apple (after taking the nail out of course). The reason is because the nail would rust leaving behind iron deposits in the apple. Iron is something that pregnant women need a lot of to keep from hemorrhaging during the birth process (or something like that)

The point is: the snus might taste a little funky but it is safe.
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

im not entirely convinced that old days doctors recommendations equates to safety.

I use iron cookware for almost everything, and I've eaten a fair amount of rust and metal. No problems so far :^)

And it's cheap as hell. It's the best bargain in kitchen supplies available. For less than $20, you can have the best cookware made :^)

I cook a lot. Was given a nice set (like 10 pans and lids) of circulon aluminum cookware. Barely use it, only time I do is when the size matters. My cast Iron and stainless steel all clad pans (total of 4) do the brunt of the work when I'm on KP. Cast Iron skillet is cheap, my all clad 3 Q saute is not. but those 2 pans cook 80-90% of what I cook....

                        Tin can corrosion

                        Gentlemanly:

When I ran Taboca (Jan 2007-May 2008), we had some problems with paint peeling within some sample cans, but we never encountered corrosion. The cans were subjected to extreme temperatures, high and low, and we only released product in them once the problem was removed.

Cans were never tested for long-term storage, and it's true that many in this forum horde-and-store, especially with PACT coming.

If you are so motivated, e-mail the Production Director of Taboca in Gotland, Ingvar Tillman (ingvar.tillman@taboca.no), and you will help him to identify what may or may not be a problem with the cans. Since Taboca sells primarily in Swedish and Norwegian retail, they must adhere to the best-before dating schemes dictated by distributor Swedish Match. If you have older frozen product, it's still of interest to improve quality from the supplier going forward.

You can say Andrew met you on snuson.

I don't think it'd hurt you, but if there is rust on the actual portions, I would do my best to rub it off, and I would move them to another can.
