I work at a shipping company. Anything less than very thick foam and sturdy cardboard, you're running an extremely high risk of damage. Trust me, stuff gets crushed, stepped on, thrown, etc. constantly. It is entirely random too. Some stuff gets entirely mutilated, others, just as perfect as they were first packaged. But most of the time, stuff still gets a beating going through the system and being packed onto trucks where the packer puts it at the bottom of the stack.

I should have known that, but thanks for bringing it to my attention. I tried using standard snus in my lower lip once, and I think it lasted about 15 minutes before it turned to slop. I gave up on the idea after that, and I didn't even consider it for the Kardus. My next pris I'm going to try it in my lower lip, and see how that works out. I prefer upper in general, because it seems like it's more out of the way, but if I can get a bigger flavor on the bottom, that'll win out over convenience :^)

I also got the Kardus 07' to try. My review:

Box is nice, looks expensive. Nice feature here is the rubber seal on the inside can to help keep the tobacco fresh.

My favorite aspect of this snus is the texture. Just like 'american long cut' dip, but not gummy from all the sugary and artificial crud in most american dips. I'm dipping this stuff in my lower lip just like 'american dip' and it's easy to snag a quick pinch. No messing around with packing a pris here, I can just 'hillbilly' it in real quick. I don't mind the spitting when using it this way, it's somehow enjoyable and really brings out the flavor. It's also very gentle on my gums, a soft feel.

The flavor is very smooth. I definitely can taste the vanilla notes and smooth straight tobacco flavor. It's somewhat reminescent of a smooth scotch, and greatly reminds me of some aromatic pipe tobaccos. It's like I'd imagine snusing a good pipe tobacco to be like were that possible.

If there was a snus with a texture like this for common usage I'd buy it exclusively for my loose supply. I've tried the Offroad long cut but it had almost no taste and the taste seemed 'off' somehow. It was also really gummy so the texture wasn't that great like the Kardus.

I'm definitely glad I bought it. One of these days I may stockpile the stuff each year and freeze what I'm not using and just use it as my loose snus all year. But I can't quite justify the cost of that right now. If the cans were still in production I'd probably buy them all year though.

        Great stuff.

Does it still come with that booklet that describes the making of Kardus?

Here's a translation of the book if anyone's interested (who hasn't seen it yet).

No, no booklet this time around. Just the box with the plastic container inside, a white ribbon and a little card saying where the tobacco's from.

I liked the idea of the little book (and enjoyed reading it on the net), but I suppose part of the point is to make the presentation different each year. It's pretty minimalist this (last) year.

I think it's the first redesign since its inception. My 2006 Kardus came in a 2004 branded box (with a 2006, hand numbered label on the tin itself) so I think the presentation had been the same up until now. I like the idea of a new look, though...maybe have to spring for another one 8)
