Is anybody going to give up snus after the PACT goes into effect?

I won't quit using snus or snuff. I do see snus being less of an option for a lot of people if the price continues to be a lot higher than dip. I've bitched all along that it's no wonder these "cigar" shops can't sell snus at $5+ a can when one can buy the best dip for under $4 including taxes. There is no way to convince me production and shipping cost that much more than it does for dip. Sure the plane ride across the pond costs more but when it's whole plane load the cost is pennies per can.

Even if they did, the gov't. would still tax the crap out of it. I don't think that it would make much of a difference. Besides, if they did I'm sure our illustrious leaders would make them jump through so many expensive hoops that it wouldn't be worth it.

I doubt I'll ever quit snus. I mean you only live once, right?

I have thought about it. If prices go up too much, then bye bye snus. I'm kinda tired of finding a snus a really like, only for it to get discontinued/banned from U.S. I'm pretty sure I could quit snus if I wanted to. Right now I have well over a year's worth, so I'll reevaluate then.

On second thought...I am all done ordering! I just looked up my college loan payoff amount and only have 2 words about that - "I'm F*$#ed!!!" I have never worried about money and my future until now. So anyway, no more impulse buys and I am definitely not paying $1.00+ more per can to cover taxes. From the looks of this thread, I can certainly say that I will be forced to quit snus once I run out, seeing as by around that time, I will be moving to the great state of WA! Thank god for a lifetime supply of snuff, I guess. I'm just bummed today...that's what I get for sitting down and looking at finances.

You mean Phillip Morris and R.J. Reynolds the satisfaction.

I might have to. What I pay now isn't too bad, but the price is going to at least double for me in Wisconsin (100% mfg price tax + federal tax + UPS shipping). Gonna have to go back to chew which is still only 4 bucks a can here.

I'm also in WI and will need to contemplate quitting, as well. Mortgage, bills and other things have to come before snus, I'm afraid.

Seriously, doesn't much affect me other than maybe a few extra hoops. For now, NC's tax on smokeless is only 12%. But even IF a can becomes $6. So what. That is still more than half less than I was spending on cigarettes. Smoking, I smoked 2 packs a day. Snus, i use a bit less than half a can a day, I just don't see what the issue is spending less than $3 or $4 a day on tobacco. I spent FAR more for years and years when I smoked
                      Amen Sage!

I'll never give up snus. When I smoked, I'd spend over $9 for a pack of smokes in the Loop and over $5 here by my home. If I have to pay $6 for snus at a shop it's still cheaper, and healthier than smoking.

I look at it this way, no matter how broke my wife and I were, we still managed to shell out $120 for 2 cartons of cigarettes a week. And trust me, we've been pretty broke in the past!

                          Exactly.

I was homeless back in my college days for a summer, unemployed, crashing on friends couches. I was selling plasma twice a week and would always have to decide between food or cigarettes. I chose cigarettes every time as I figured it would just be easier to have my nicotine and be hungry. So why in the he** would I care about paying a few more bucks for my snus when snus has saved me thousands and thousands of dollars these past three years.

Besides, as I have stated many times, I use nicotine to help treat my ADHD. Without it, I would either have to pay thousands of dollars a year for prescription drugs ( can ONLY use the one non stimulant ADHD drug), or not treat t and be unable to hold down a job. So no, even if the price of snus tripled, I am not gonna stop

Pact related reason for me, would be if it's just a major hassle to get it, meaning UPS, I hated using UPS, and when the old getsnus sometimes would, because I work 7:30am to 5:30pm, and I'm just not home during the day. And then UPS sometimes would come when I'm not home, then sometimes they'd come late after I got home, which was fine, but not if they need a signature..... Well, it just so much better when USPS would just drop it on the porch, which I wished they'd had just done with my Olde Viking today.

Almost the same thing these days, since they have such huge influence over policy....and I say EFF them too, I won't ever quit snus!

I live in Canada, so I'm not too worried about needing to quit here! (Although us Canucks do have super high tobacco taxes )
