"Snux X" make your own Snus ... couple of questions

Hello all, I am a refugee from the Getsnus forums. I am still in mourning ... I placed an order the other day and was like "what is going on ?".

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you have tried the Snus X make your own snus yet ?

I've read some reviews and it seems to be pretty good. My main question is more about the flavoring or "aroma".

    1. What is the "smoke" flavor ? Just smokey tobacco-y wood flavor ?

    2. What exactly are these "aroma's" ? Are they oils , extracts or something different , and are they already sweetened ?

I was hoping to actually use my own flavorings ( the prices seem a little high for theirs as well ) but im not quite sure what I would use ? Flavoring extracts seem to be right, but would I also have to add some kind of sweetener ? And if so what would you use ? I don't want it to taste like Camel sugar packets, but I believe extracts have no sweetness at all.

What do you guys think ?

    Thanks again.

P.S. Is Kasey or Dennis from Getsnus on this forum now ?

    Welcome to SnusOn!

There's a tiny bit on SnusX here...

    http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...it-All-Flavors

You should be able to use just about any kind of flavoring. I'd stay away from adding sweeteners though. I don't know about Kasey or Dennis.

Welcome to SnusOn! I haven't tried SnusX yet, but that will change when the loose version is available. I have made and flavored my own snus from the kits you can get and mix and bake the snus at home. The flavorings for those seem to be just concentrated essential oils. You're right, they are not sweet. All the snus I like is salty not sweet although I like Probe loose which is a bit sweet. You should have no problem using your own flavorings. If you want sweet snus, use something sweet for flavor. You should be able to use anything you want. You just don't want to overdo the sweetners or you might rot your teeth out.

Not sure what they use for the smoky flavor. Justintempler probably does, maybe he'll chime in.

There's a product used in cooking that is called "Liquid Smoke"...and I've used it a couple of times. Not sure it would be a good additive to snus, but it's edible so it couldn't hurt. I picked mine up at Wal-Mart.

I remember reading about these LorAnn's flavorings from the e-cigg forum back in the day. Lot's of great sounding stuff:

LorAnn flavors are highly regarded among bakers and candy makers. They're very concentrated, so I would think you would use less than with other brands of flavorings.

              Welcome to SnusOn jp!

I have some Snus X along with V2's Vanilla flavoring. First lesson..........go easy on the flavorings!! It may not look like alot when they say only use 15 to 18 drops of flavoring but they know what they're talking about! My first batch, I said to myself "That's not enough! I'm going to add just a bit more.". BIG MISTAKE!!!

I find that only 10 drops from a pipette or eyedropper is plenty. My first batch tasted like a Vanilla nightmare. Too Sweet and too powerful. I use natural flavorings and extracts you can get from the baking section at Whole Foods or an organic shop. Less additives, less alcohol and makes the snus taste pretty good. Just remember, go easy on the flavorings. You can always add a bit more but, you can't take it out.

I've been pondering making a pre-Pact order, I'm decently stocked considering my usage, but one thing that interests me is the SnusX Menthol portion set. I'm not a "flavored" snus fan, but the idea of just a straight up menthol interests me..... next Friday is payday.

Isn't liquid smoke full of "PAH"s? (carcinogen found in, well, everything)

I'm not concerned, I eat too many steaks to care about PAH's...but if someone was on the snus for reduced harm they might want to look into it.

Hi, welcome to SnusOn! Over on my blog, (http://www.snuson.com/forum/blog.php...-House-of-Snus) I'm documenting my efforts with SnusX.

I'm using my own flavorings (Whole Foods + some from an Internet vendor), although I am going to try theirs too at some point. The individual cost seems high, but the combination deal seems acceptable (like + 1$).

I'm using alcohol based extracts. I tried adding a tiny bit of Stevia (in a bottle from Whole Foods - kind of expensive) once - so far it seems to be better without this.

                    I hope this helps!

Is this something that is actually happening, or just something you would like to see? I almost ordered a bucket of snusX and haven't yet because I really prefer loose. If a loose version is coming, I will hold off and get some of that.

Liquid smoke is a Cheater BBQ essential—a critical ingredient for making great barbecue without a fire. Liquid smoke is exactly that—smoke from smoldering hardwoods or fruitwoods condensed in water with impurities and carcinogens removed. It is not chemical or synthetic. It is safe, consistent, timesaving, economical, and environmentally friendly smoke in a bottle.

We call it bottled smoke. It tastes and smells like real smoke because it is real smoke. It has been accepted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration since the early 1960s. Just like traditional wood smoke, not only does bottled smoke deliver great flavor it also still performs the age-old job of inhibiting spoilage and reducing pathogens in meats. Bottled smoke filters out the eye burning and coughing carcinogens generated during traditional wood burning.
You want a smoke flavour that is pure smoke flavour without any other added ingredients. The majority of the stuff on store shelves has added stuff like vinegar, salt, sugar, molasses. You don't want those for snus, you want just pure liquid smoke with nothing else added.

There are 2 American brands that are pure smoke with nothing added they are:

                            Wright's:

Hmm, I think I'm going to have to pick up some of that when I get my SnusX kit.
