    Ice Tool 3mm vs 5mm

What is the difference between the 3mm and the 5mm Ice Tool.

    Diameter?

    Length?

I have a 3mm Ice tool and even though I am new to all of this I can't see how someone coudl handle a pris from a 5mm Ice Tool.

If I was to stuff a pris that big in my lip I don't think I could see over my mustache!

Do people really do a monster pris, and where do they put it?

here's some photos I posted in another thread

These are both 2/3 sized pris' (about 2/3 of the barrel length), so 2ml in the 3ml icetool and the same-ish ratio out of the 5ml tool.

At first I found the 5ml pris a bit big, and I'm a small guy, but after a while it grew on me and I use them both quite regularly now. The 5ml is a bit big for out and about, I think - it feels quite conspicuous - but I often like it, especially a shorter, fatter pris out of the 5ml as it occupies a narrower region in the top lip and doesn't lend so much to portion "bleeding" (snus avalanche) around the sides and to the back of the mouth like a longer 3ml-tool pris would.

The syringe I was using for Landströms had a very wide bore, but it worked pretty well for that. I'm not sure how good it would have been for a more standard snus. The pris it made was kind of like a fat tablet, but once it was pushed into place with my tongue it was perfect.

Thanks for visuals, that gives me a good perception of the difference.

To me it seems that the 5mm would produce such a large pris that the upper lip would really stick out and look odd to people who come in contact with you. Plus it seem that the size would cause a lot of pressure in the upper lip, inducing more of a burn on the mucus membrane.

Has anyone ever started a discussion of how large of a pris most loose users do on the average.

I just got my 3ml tool in the mail today. I am very happy with it. I have found that pulling the plunger to the 2nd or 3rd notch makes the perfect sized pris for me. As far as the 5ml goes, I cannot comment. I too would think that the pris would be rather large, but i am also a total noob when it comes to loose snus at this point.

Edit: Zero, could you tell me what you use to keep the O-ring on your tools lubed up? I have read many times about keeping it oiled. I would think it would have to be some sort of food oil (peanut, vegetable, etc)?

I've been using the 3mm icetool for a while now. Fully loaded it really packs my lip ! But since more often than not I only use loose at home, it doesn't matter how deformed my lip looks.

I've been thinking about getting the larger size ice tool. I'd have to experiment to see if it's too big, or what the max size is most comfortable at.

                happy snusing !

I think any food grade oil would work. I use olive oil and it works well.

I can't wait to get a 5mm. Its been on my list a while now.

Yeah, any food oil is fine. Every now and then I like to wash it right out with soap and hot water - this if it starts to stick even with regular oiling. What seems to happen is that a film of hardened, sticky oil residue builds up on the inside of the icetool that needs to be washed out with soap - then a touch of oil again and you're good to go.

Looks like they used their design program to just scale up the size of the 3ml until the chamber volume equaled 5ml's. Zero, are there the same number of marks on the 5ml plunger as on the 3ml one? I like knowing that each mark on the 3ml is 0.5ml, but I'm a scientist and a dork, and I usually go with a 1.5-2ml pris, only going for the 3ml when I'm feeling super bad ass. I guess what I'm asking in my verbose way is: are the graduations on the 5ml Icetool each 0.5ml?

I'd like to get a 5ml, but I really want the orange one, and it looks like that only comes in 3ml. Oh well, I guess I'll get the champagne 5ml for extra classiness... after I buy an orange one. I will probably only use the 5ml occasionally, but sometimes I like a huge pris so I'm sure I'll get some use out of it.

                        Thanks and aloha,

Hey, just noticed this now - the short answer is no, the graduation is different on the 5ml and the 3ml. The 3ml is divided neatly into six 0.5ml gradations while the 5ml is divided oddly into seven 0.714285714ml gradations :? It's also missing the first notch, so the volume to the first notch is actually twice that of the remaining gradations - in a sense it's still actually only "six" sections, but the first one is twice the size...go figure.

I will probably pick up a 3ml one and some loose. I've only tried portions so far, and the call of the loose is taking over me.

It sounds like they're notches on the Ice Tool, so how would I go about making a pris about the size of a regular portion?

I'd say to make a regular portion with the 3ml you would want roughly 1-1.5 marks give or take a bit. It will feel different under your lip than a portion though. It will be short and fat instead of long and flat which you will get used to pretty quick. I usually set my 3ml at 2 ticks then pack it out until the plunger starts sliding back to about 2.25 marks then compress it nicely and go. The thing to keep in mind is that the 1st tick mark you come to is approx 3/8" whereas each mark after that adds 1/4" so that first mark is approx 50% larger than the next few.

The other day i was playing with the thing and took the plunger completely out and packed the whole thing tight w/ N&J Los then inserted the plunger to push it out. Pris wrapped from molar to molar and had me bouncin off the walls for a while. Had that damn pris in for near 6 hours Was really just playing with my icetool and that was the outcome of boredom at work.
