Well, Kentucky, I plan to pick some up tomorrow or the day after, the shop tells me they will be in in a day or so. I can send you some if you pm me an address.
Thanks for the offer mate but I can wait until a merchant offers it, I'd prefer not to put you through the trouble. That's very kind and much appreciated.
So far Snus is available at the Ottawa Cigar Emporium and the Comerford Cigar store at 124 Bank Street. Comerford is slightly cheaper that the OCE. I bought some duMaurier snus today and will try it. Looks like it is mini portion in original and mint flavour.
Perhaps people can post other locations in Ottawa here. I asked Imperial but they said they couldn't tell me where it was being sold...which is kind of strange IMHO.
Found another location in Ottawa for Snus, you can also buy it at Sheffield Express in the Carlingwood Shopping Centre in the west of the city.
So far the prices are:
Sheffield Express (Carlingwood): $8.39 + tax
Comerford Cigar Store: $ 7.40 + tax
Ottawa Cigar Emporium: I forget exactly but its $8ish plus tax.
So far I'm enjoying the snus and have quit smoking with it. I'm not sure how the du Maurier snus compares to the products from Sweden. I was told that this product they are selling here is made by Swedish Match for import into Canada, but I'd be curious to know how it compares.
Thats right, I actually never heard of snus until I read that it was coming here about a month ago, so at that point I did alot of research and learned about the whole Swedish origins etc. I do intend to order online from buysnus.com at some point, but as the test was being expanded here I thought I'd try the DuMaurier as it would be easily available in the first instance.
So far my impression is that the duMaurier flavour is quite mild and subtle, it certainly does not seem to be like the reviews I have read about the US snus like Camel or Marlboro, no mention on the packs about FlavorStrips and other crap. I've heard the DuMaurier is being made in Sweden (the tins do say it is imported) I have emailed Imperial to confirm if the origin is Sweden.
Back to the taste, it is not very sweet (like Camel is supposed to be), the original flavour is quite mild which is good depending on your perspective, personally I would prefer it to be a bit stronger flavour wise. I suspect I will prefer Skruf once I try some. The DuMaurier nicotine hit seems quite good and certainly has eliminated my need to smoke completely. I would be most interested to know how the DuMaurier snus compares to the actual product people are ordering from Sweden.
It's not as punchy and salty as the real deal from Sweden which I do like but took me some getting used to - a friend sent me some of the Minty DuMaurier which is quite sweet, but nowhere near the Camel level.
Call me a girl, but I can't handle the big stuff, I'm a mini-man and I haven't smoked in 9 months since using snus. Mocca, Metropol Mini, Catch and the odd Diplomat white when I'm feeling daring!
(BTW, tried some WISE 3mg from thenorthener, thought it was an interesting taste but then the thing took my head off after 15 min and I had to lie down!!! 3 mg???? Lightweight! ops: )
I just picked up a tin of the Dumaurier regular and mint snus this morning. They were expensive, $8 for a tin of 20. They are mini portions and the tins are attractive red and white like the DuMaurier cigarettes, although half the label is the inevitable Health Canada warnings that the product is addictive and can cause cancer  .
As for the snus itself, I have only tried the regular, it is a dry mini like the Catch products, and the label says they are actually imported from Sweden. The flavor is very subtle and the saltiness is really muted. There is a wee lick of licorice in there somewhere.
The verdict? I will keep using these as the workday mini. I will keep ordering regular size portions online. Now i can put those godawful Wise minis with their chewing gum sorbitol overwhelming artificial flavour in the back of the cupboard.
Well, I received a reply from Imperial and it is being manufactured in Sweden at least. So despite the price hike at least we are not currently facing the issues that Camel and Marlboro users are, regarding whether the product is really snus or not. I will definitely need to order from buysnus.com.
email from Imperial:
Dear Sir:
We acknowledge receipt of your most recent e-mail regarding SNUS.
This product is a Swedish-type SNUS which has been developed to satisfy Canadian adult consumer
preferences. In answer to your other question, this product is manufactured in a specialized SNUS factory
in Malmo, Sweden.
Thank you for communicating with us regarding this matter.
For what its worth here is an article about Canada's anti smoking forces blocking healthier anti smoking alternatives.
I believe it to be a commentary....
