    Loose vs Portion

I'm sorry you guys if this is a repeat. I didn't see a thread like this, although there are so many threads.

Anyway, I've been snusing portions for about a year now and I think I'm ready to try the loose. I've never attempted the american dip so I would be completely new to this. Any advice on trying loose? Are there any advantages with loose over portion or vice versa.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm a newbie, but I jumped in and tried loose fairly quickly. No previous experience with smokeless before trying snus.

Loose is more flavorful and less salty-tasting. I seem to get better nicotine absorption with loose.

OTOH, loose can be a little messy, and it's difficult (but not impossible) to remove a pris in a dignified way when others are watching.

I'm sure the more experienced snusers here will be able to give you better advice, but that's my experience so far. Having said all that, it's worth a try. Order one can of loose and a Prismaster, or get yourself a 3 ml syringe and make a ghetto tool. Minimal expense, in case you try it and decide loose is not for you.

Loose is definitely the best way to experience snus, since you get more nicotine, flavor, and a more authentic experience with it. While there are the obvious disadvantages when it comes to convenience and discreetness, the quality of los (in my opinion) is far superior to portioned varieties. I would recommend trying Roda Lacket first, since its very easy to hand bake. While it takes some practice to get the process of hand baking down, its well worth it in the long run, since you can control the size and shape of your prillas. I have been using loose snus almost exclusively for the past couple of months and couldn't imagine going back to portions.

Loose is, to me anyway, a great way to relax after a long day of work. Like snusjus said, Nicotine is released faster since there's no barrier between your gums and the tobacco and the flavor is much more intense. Another great thing about loose is there's less of a salty taste since there's less salt needed for loose snus.

Although, my job doesn't allow me to use it while I'm working but, it's great to put the portions away for the night and relax with a nice prilla of Skruf Stark!

My first and only Los thus far is Roda lacket, and as others have said it's easy to bake and very enjoyable after work, dinner, etc. Different and better experience when compared to the portions as far as I'm concerned.

I was nervous about trying los, but decided to give it a go in order to get the full snus experience. As mentioned above, get a prismaster for around 2 bucks and a can of Roda, Ettan, or Prima Fint. I found with the prismaster the pillow like shape did not go well with my mouth, so I handbaked them a bit to make the pris more cylindrical. Be warned that the flavor and nic seems to come on slower (to me) then with portions, but that's probably more a factor in how tight the pris is packed, tighter will have slower flavor and nic release but less prone to mudslide, loosed will be the opposite.

I enjoy los so much more then portions at home, but I'm a portion man while I'm out and about.

I got back into los a few months ago. Like others have said I prefer it at home. That's the only time I'll use it unless I know I'll be back before I have to take it out. I make a balls of a mess taking them out sometimes and I have a need to rinse my mouth out thoroughly. Even with out any slide I just feel it's best to rinse the gums well. I have one or two prillas a day, but I wouldn't miss it if I couldn't have it anymore. I dig on portions.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I noticed there are not as many loose brands availble. I believe I'll try the roda, I like it in portion but I'd also like to try an extra sterk.

save the 2 dollars. prismasters are pieces of shit. youre better off just using your fingers.

When I first started snus, it was nothing but portions for me. However, as time wore on, I grew more curious...what was the big deal about this loose snus everyone loves so much? I tried it, it was over...loved it.

It's like having sex without a condom!! It feels better, it delivers more pleasure, and there's always the danger of it getting everywhere...last but not least, the cleanup can sometimes be messy.

                        +1 Excellent choice.

If you like a bit less nic but a nice robust yet pleasant chocolaty flavor, I also recommend some Blå

Agreed, although it is nice for measuring out an amount for a prilla. I used to pop it into my hand and then finish the baking process manually.

I like longcut straight better than los and like portions snus for their convenience but I don't go crazy for the taste.... I do like the taste of longcut straight... grizzly or redman or even longhorn...
