I have a tin of Retro original portions on the way in my next shipment. If anyone tries it before then, let me know.

That's a real shame to hear that they have added Juniper berry I always loved Diplomat as it had a nice pure tobacco taste with salty aftertone. I guess for the die hard F&L fans among us there's still Granit

Well, got my tin today. It's overpowered by the juniper flavor. I'm starting to get the feeling that they put more juniper in it than tobacco, lol

If Granit goes the way of Diplomat, I will be a sad man indeed. The maxi portions are an inexpensive little slice of heaven.

I am not a big juniper fan so I doubt I will like it. Mine should be arriving any time. This makes me a little less excited but I still like trying new brands.

Got my can of Retro (with my roll of Luckies) and today I am trying it out. First impression is its a quality F&L snus portion, good salt/nic/bitterness balance and 'delivers the goods' so to speak. The packaging is nice and easy on the eye. Flavouring: hmm, well, it is NOT strongly flavoured (which is a good thing IMO), has a touch of juniper (if that's what it is - fruity/herby) and a slight sweetness not unlike the caramel of N&J.
Retro will be my snus-of-the-day today because I have opened it. I am not sure if it will find its way into my regular rotation though. I may add an occasional can to a mixed order from time to time, and it may well grow on me, but my sadness at the loss of Diplomat is not much relieved by this replacement so far.

Interesting, I'm enjoying my 2nd portion this time around in the upper right part of my lip, near my canine tooth there, and I can taste the peppery taste this time around. The juniper doesnt feel as strong either.

                    Swedish advertising regs

In Sweden, there is a full ban on outdoor and press advertising for tobacco, and the only communication is in the store. And there, companies can make no claims with regard to product attributes.

Norway allows no communication at all. Many Norwegians buy their snus on the Swedish side of the border, where the same brands are half price due to tax differences, and get exposed to advertising there.

Well, I went through a whole can of it over the weekend and actually quite enjoyed it.

It doesn't have very much in common with Diplomat, except maybe that it seems to be quality snus and might have the same tobacco-base.
The juniper(?) flavour is subtle enough, I didn't get tired of it like I do when I snus two or more portions of, say, Göteborgs in a row.
It has enough nicotine in it - somewhere around the standart 8mg I'd say - and doesn't turn bitter or anything.

That said, and given that I'm not a big fan of flavored snus' in general, it did quite surprise me. It has a good chance to get into my (yet hypothetical) rotation, but more like in a 10:1 ratio to some other, plain-tobacco brand.

OK, bumping this thread after having a second can of Retro snus and LOVING IT!!!!
I tossed one into my last order to give it another chance and took it with me on vacation to Malta. This is a tasty, grown-up snus with an excellent nic delivery.
My previous reaction to this great product was no doubt coloured by my disappointment at the demise of Diplomat, but looking at it objectively I would have to say that Retro will now join my regular rotation.

I tried retro the first time a few weeks ago. Today i bought my second can in the supermarket.

I must say i really like it. Costs about the same price as some other "standart" white portions like Göteborgs Rapé or General. But when you open it and smell on it there is something about it that seems to make it a higher quality snus compared to the others. The smell and taste is pretty good. But it's hard to tell what exactly the taste is. Reminds me a bit of Catch Licorice snus. Maybe thats the taste. But it's definately more subtle.

I agree with FatLip, the Retro Original is ,IMO, high quality, tasty snus. It reminds me a lot of Knox with more flavor and other subtle flavors. My portions were very juicy compared to other portions, which I most definitely like. It was almost like having a loose snus in my mouth. Knox is/was my main everyday snus. I might choose Retro over it because it is so good. The can is one of the best I have seen. It is extremely tight fitting as well as the cap for a used portions. The finger indentation is a nice little touch that makes the can unique. I think that everyone should give it a try if one likes Knox.
