Swedish snus vs. dip and chew

Over the last six month I have become a fan of swedish snus. My favorite is the General Portions.
Being from Denmark, I know nothing about anything else but snus made in Sweden and Denmark (I actually got hold of a box of Camel frosted...and I'm not getting anymore of that stuff).

I've seen on various US sites, that some americans use something called dip and another thing called chew.
What is that - and is it worth ordering online?

I tried a box of nasal snuff - it has an okay taste, but it don't give me the nicotine buzz I'm after.

I'd say dip and chew is worth trying, just to see if you like it.

Just be careful. Some of it is rumored to contain fiberglass shavings.

Dip tends to be like coarser ground los snus while chew is unground leaf tobacco usually curred with some sort of molasses.

Neither dip nor chew conform to the high standards of purity required of snus and also have higher TSNA levels due to the fire curring of the tobacco vs pasteurizing it as with snus.

There is also a concern that there may be other carcinogenic and chemical factors involved in dip that are not present in snus.

Regardless, having spent 20+ years with dip and chew I would not make regular use of it.

Snus is simply a better and safer product all around

            +1

But just to satisfy your curiosity, it won't kill you. If you prefer high octane stuff, you probably won't care for chew as much. WB Cut, seemed to have decent nic, but most chew I tried was on the weaker side. You'd probably want to try Copenhagen, Timber Wolf or Grizzly natural for higher nic content or maybe Skoal, if for some weird reason you think you might like Wintergreen flavor.

Skoal has a ton of flavors, their Classic is a good natural.

I've seen it before. I thought it was pure marketing. Wouldn't Skoal natural be Copenhagen with a Skoal label? But I never tried it, could be wrong.

                  It's different, but similar.

I believe that Timberwolf Dip is made by Swedish Match, if you want to try that one. Its still dip though, so don't expect anything close to snus.

I've read some things recently that indicate this is not as true as it once was.

Nope - tried it, and one box lasted more than a month ;-)

Yeah wintergreen is nasty. Coppenhagen longcut or Snuff, and maybe Grizzly are the only dip worth getting online. Mint is weird and not as good as General. The fruit flavor skoal is nothing special and other brands are popular mostly bought because of the price. The one chew I tried is Redman and it had a weird sweet raisin flavor. Might be worth a try. You won't get cancer from trying a few cans or occasionally using dip and chew.

Well, spitting is necessary w/ dip and chew. Beware of that.

Thursday I had a 5 hour drive and I got a can of Skoal Apple (yum) and during a dip I got a phone call. After being on the phone for about 20 minutes I noticed my stomach churning. WTF? Then I noticed my mouth was full of flavor. I went to go take a drink of water when it dawned on me...I've been swallowing the juice for 20 minutes like I do with snus...forgot I had dip in. Luckily this subsided rather quickly.

Spitting is the big drawback with the stuff and the pinch wains of flavor and nic faster than snus. I'd recommend you try the stuff just for the experience but it's very different.
