So i tried my first non-flavored snus and hated it (general portion)

The saltiness was overbearing at first and I spit my first one out after a minute but after reading around this forum a bit I decided to try again. The saltiness was was really hard to overcome and it never really settled down. The juice was harsh and irritated my throat, so the only way to make it bearable was to spit into a bottle. After a while the peppery taste overcame the saltiness and it tasted like a pinch of black pepper tucked into my lip. I spit it out after 20 minutes and I can't even smell the can without feeling sick.

I know eveyone says snus is an acquired taste but I think I'll be sticking to Minty snus for now. I also think I like white portions better but I won't know for sure until I try a normal minted portion.

Also, that said I only used two portions and if someone wants to pay shipping I'll mail the rest of this can (General Original Portion) for free so it doesn't go to waste.

I found the first time I tried snus (General White Portion) it irritated my throat as well, but that quickly went away when I tried a few more. The saltiness doesn't seem to bother me either and it's probably because frequently have a handfull of sunflower seeds in mouth throughout work pretty frequently. I'd say just use what you like and come back to it in the future when you don't think the smell would make you gag.

Don't sell it or give it away. Put it in the fridge and come back to it in a week or so. You may have a very different experience. You'll get over the salt part of it in short order. Within a few weeks at most you will hardly notice it. Another thing to think about is trying some of the straight tobacco flavored snus as opposed to bergamot. Try some Ettan, Grovsnus or 01. Many people who can't deal with the bergamot do quite well with these. I don't mind the bergamot but I do much more of the straight tobacco type snus.

Sound almost just like my 1st posts. Yeah, it really takes a good week of regular use, for the overly saltiness to subside, and to really appreciate the taste of snus. I think for newbies, and new American market, snus is really different and an aquired taste, at least it was for me. If you wanna be able to use and enjoy snus, just keep with it. It took me another time, after I'd quit snus, to come back, and again get used to the salty taste, but after about a week, it really changes.

Honestly I like flavored snuses however, I do also like some tobacco snuses but some such as Grov, Kronan, and LD aren't that good to me, but not unbearable.

I have yet to try General OP, but General Regular Lös is delicious. :P

I had the same experience with my first General portion. But listen to the advice you have been given above -- put the can in the freezer for a week, or even a month. Go ahead and use all the flavored snus you want to in the meantime. If you're like most of us, however, when you try the General again, it will taste totally different.

Yeah, placement makes a difference too, I find it jucies less, when I put it in the front "grill" area, to the side.

                  ^^^This.

I had the same basic reaction to General the first time I tried it as the first real Swedish snus I tried after using Camel for a few weeks. But I came back to it later and discovered that suddenly I really did like it, and also the basic tobacco snusses like Ettan and Grovsnus. General's now my "regular" snus, which I wouldn't have predicted the first time I tried it. You might never like General, but give it another try after some time has passed and try some other "straight" snusses, and don't necessarily go by your first impression. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Most of your issues should go away with time. You just have to keep at it. Put it in your rotation once or twice a day, and keep a drink handy. That'll help with salt and throat irritation. In a little while you won't notice either of them being a problem any more. Trust us, you don't generally want to limit yourself to just one type of snus, because for most people it will turn on them at some point in time.

Like all bad things, you must get used to it if you want to keep using it. Just like cigarettes.

First time I used snus my lip swelled up.

also make sure you have something to drink too while your snusing it will help a ton with the salt

I think that you maybe would like examble monte cristo or taboca or some minty snuses perhaps catch flavours. They are quite nice. I did like their eucalyptus and liquorice snus.

Ettan Portions are very mellow. There is no salt flavor and the tobacco tastes like chocolate. I would recommend ordering a can of Ettan Original and White Portions with your next order.
