    Pronunciation of Snus Brands?

So, it's come to my attention that there is some disparity in regards to how some of this wonderful Swedish tobacco is pronounced.....

My wife calls is snus, as in "snuz". I call it snus, as in "snuce".

She says I buy too much "Et-tun", or sometimes "Et-ten". I say I purchase just enough "Et-tan".

Is it "Skruff" or is it "Sk-roof"?

Can someone from the homeland of Nicklas Lidstrom, Hendrik Zetterberg, and Mats Sundin (Ok, I should've just said SWEDEN) clarify?

Some brands such as Ettan and what have you, are open to interpretation. I just want to know if i'm saying them right.

    Thanks!!

    Cheers,

    Erik

I pronounce snus like snoos and ettan like et-tahn. not sure. People at work ask me about what "dip" i have each day. I just show em the can. When a customer says "what dip is that", I just reply "I order it from Sweden". I gave up on trying to explain it to the good ol' boys here.

Yeah, it's gotta be hard south of the Mason-Dixon Line.... I lived in VA for 10 years. It can be hard to explain to some of the good ole boys......

But now that i'm back in D-Troit, I constantly correct people that i'm using snus, not dip, chew or snuff.

      Gotta advocate.

      Cheers,

      Erik

For 'snus', just listen to this guy :

Ettan I've always heard pronounced "ETT-an" (stressed with the capitals) where ETT rhymes with "set" and "an" sounds half-like "un". Ettan means, roughly "the first", I think.

Ya, it is difficult to explain snus, in general, to some of the other good ol' boys down here in Arkansas. American snuff is very popular here, especially in the small rural town of Lavaca, where I live. Anymore I just refer to my snus as Swedish snuff, which snuff is basically what the word snus boils down to. Oh, while on the note of good ol' boys and snuff...I was visiting a friend which works at the local grocery store and while having a chat, we ran across a can of Grizzly long-cut natural American snuff that laid unclaimed. Out of curiosity to see how one of the old fav's tasted, I idiotically got a dip of that wretched stuff and was able to keep it in for a period of about 20 minutes before I realized how unbearably disgusting it was. That, my fellow snusers, is a true sign of how much I love snus. I'll never go back to that overpriced dog turd they put in a can over here in the States.
