    taxes on snus delivery

I have not ordered since pact went into effect...I see that ups is now the only option for shipping...Will there be additional taxes to pay when the order arrives from buysnus or getsnus?....Will I have to be home to receive it?...I want to place an order but I would like to know what to expect the total cost to be on a 25$ order and 12$ ups fee....Thanks in advance...RED...ps I'm in California

PACT goes into effect Tuesday the 29th.

Getsnus should include the tobacco taxes - You should pay the sales/use tax.

I have no idea what buysnus's plan is. I don't think they are going to collect tobacco taxes. I don't know if they are going to report their sales.

I'd stick with American vendors for the time being. Taxes will be taken by the vendor, but I've heard of some nasty surcharges coming from UPS for foreign deliveries. I'd let other people be the guinea pigs, and see how it all shakes out.

Even though get snus is owned by northerner, it is an American vendor? Because they have a US warehouse?....If taxes are taken by the vendor, then there will be no further charge for taxes, or surcharges, on delivery from UPS?..Will I have to sign for it?...Thanks for your help..RED

I think you are set as far as UPS goes.

One thing to keep in mind though is that, when you purchase a product and do not pay sales tax (aka use tax), most states expect you to pay it yourself. This is hard to police. And the process doesn't appear to be well spelled out - in my state I spent like 2 days trying to figure it out and I can't determine a way to do this without registering as a business and getting a tax number...

But, in my opinion, and in my understanding... I need to get back to this and try again. Because, part of PACT involves the vendors having to supply the state tax authorities with records of purchases and to retain these records for review for 4 years.

I don't know that there is a fine if you ignore this. But given state budget problems, I expect that once they get it all figured out they will come after us if we ignore it, and I expect there is a fine involved if you didn't pay it on a timely basis.

Are some of the foreign vendors ignoring this and leaving it to the customer to deal with?

So in the case of Northerner they collect the tobacco taxes and keep record of that and we the buyer are responsible for paying the sales tax. I'll ask my girlfriend about how one would pay the sales tax since she works for the IRS. Since it will be on record interesting things may happen come tax time for us.

In the past when I file my state taxes (Idaho) there was always a section to pay taxes on internet purchases.

I believe Getsnus is adding the necessary state taxes to the site at this very moment. I just tried a dummy order at Getsnus; the age verification box was on the checkout page, but the items were removed due to "Missing Tax Information." IIRC, Fredrik posted that the taxes would be up by Monday (today).
