    General Star Pattern-Wedge Shape Portions??

What's with the wedge shape of the portions in the
"star pattern" like in General Sterk?

I read somewhere the shape makes it more comfortable in
the mouth. I fail to see how?

I take it that "somewhere" was Swedish Match's marketing.

      true, true

but it has some kind of valid point. the shape it gets because of the packing helps IMO for the first few minutes in the mouth. i put the potion with the thicker end back in the mouth, which leads to a comfortable setup from the first moment on. But nothing you cannot achieve with any potion after a few minutes.

P.S.: did i make myself clear here?

I prefer the wedge shape, but hey maybe my mouth is different. They seem to be more invisible and the portion stays in place a shade better for me.

But its not that big a deal, normal portions aren't really a bother, nor that much different. I read a lot of people on here who even out the tobacco, or fold them over before use. I am pretty sure peda is right though, the wedge shape is just due to the packaging, i imagine it wasn't really intended to be more or less comfortable.

You can always pinch one side of a regular portion. Right now my favorite by far is the 01/02 series and I really cannot wait until the General Long portions hit the market.

I even it out like my normal portions. I don't see any advantage in the wedge.

I always break up the wedges so they are spread out like a normal portion. I believe they make the wedge shape so it fits in the star formation.

Are long portions just in between minis and regulars in size, or are they a different shape of regular portion?

This is basically my experience. I find the wedge a little better fit in the mouth than regular portions, but it's not like regular portions don't fit well in the mouth. To some extent, the wedges may be a solution in search of a problem. But the start pattern packing is cool, and that's probably the main point of them anyway.

I think they should have kept the star for Onyx only, or for other premium brands as they were released. It cheapens their premium snus, when one of the presentation features gets used on a lower end product.

I would agree with that point.. When I saw the star formation in my Catch Licorice I was really surprised because I thought that was only for premium snus.

I don't know how hard it would be to do with existing machinery, but if they really like the wedge, they could use a rectangular tin, and place the wedges in rows. That would be a little less special than the star, but still be a neat presentation, and something other companies aren't doing.

A rectangular tin would be neat, I would like to see that as maybe a limited edition and see how the market reacts to it.

                            I do this too.

I reform all my portions out of habit anyway, so I didn't even realize there was a wedge shape to them until I saw this thread.

The first tin of Swedish snus I ever opened was General White Portion, so I thought it was just typical, and I remember being surprised when opening my first tin of General OP and seeing the pouches were just dumped in there instead of being in the star pattern.
