By the way I've used the apple hydrating method and one piece of apple started growing bacterias (just noticed this morning and had to remove it)

precious, I would agree wth snusgetter Try spritzing with distilled water and forget other liquids and such until you get your portions re-Hydrated, Then experiment A bit if you feel the need... Here is another method and i tried it and works, But i used distilled water.... http://www.snuson.com/forum/showthre...tions-Hydrated

If it's Los I haven't had to re-Hydrate it yet and don't know

I haven't read this thread nor am I going to (because I'm going to bed), but just wanted to let every new and/or worried snuser know that last week I got back from traveling from Seattle to Paris, then to Malaysia where I stayed for one week on a tropical island with no refrigeration and VERY high heat and humidity, then through Singapore, and finally around the world (and then some) to Chicago, then West back to Seattle. The whole time I carried and used expired and unrefrigerated Odens ES and Gots Gul portions, to no ill effect. The Gotlands definitely held up better than the Odens. However, for those who have used Odens ES Portions, perhaps you can appreciate how FUNKY they can get without proper storage, and I still used them day in and day out in 90 degree weather with 90% humidity for a few weeks and they were fine. So quit yer trippin'. Hope that helps, Roo.

          Question for the experts

Just wondering, if you have kept your snus in the freezer, how long past the expiration date can you go before its no good anymore? I have some in the freezer that are past the EX. date, but its been in the freezer the entire time

          best regards

from what I have read on here as long as it stays in the freezer in a freezer bag or vacuum sealed it can stay in there for years , the Ex date means nothing if it has been frozen

I'm currently using a tin of Gotland Gul portion that "expired" in April 08. It isn't as good as fresh, but it's good enough. Gotland in particular seems to be more sensitive to age, and if that's ok, others will certainly be better.

Thanks guys, just wasn't sure if it effected the nicotine or something. I am still trying to figure out the appropriate nicotine intake to replace 20 to 25 cigs a day. It is hard for me because it feels like totally different ways of getting nicotine. Sometimes I feel like I am not getting enough, or other times too much but without the satisfaction that you feel when you smoke a cigarette.

I recant my answer.. These guys have been in the game a lot longer than I lol.. Have you tried the extra sterk portions ie thunder frosted? Those really helped me in the beginning. Oh and you haven't tried snuff yet I highly reccomend it. The nic hits faster.. What Ive been doing is take a quick pinch of snuff, then pop a portion. I get a quick nic fix from the snuff and by the time that wears off the snus is doing it's magic. When I quit smoking back in June I was down to like
7-8 cigs a day. Now in doing about 6-7 portions and about 6-7 pinches of snuff. I don't know if that's an equal amount of nic or more. I don't really care though if my tolerance is higher cause snus/snuff is way more safe than cigs.

A year's probably best for balancing a stash, and flavor level. Ideally, you'd get snus as needed, but that isn't always possible, or desirable for people outside of Sweden. Freezing doesn't freeze time. Snus will always degrade, but freezing slows the process down. It's an individual call for everyone's particular circumstance. As for me, I'm happy as a clam I have 3 year old snus. I don't have money for snus now, and the forethought to hoard snus saved the day :^)

I am just going to take a wild guess that you must have one serious freezer!

I have a standard fridge/freezer, and a chest freezer :^) A lot of the reason I have snus so old, is because I really slacked off on using portions, so they stick around awhile. I have a decent cache of lös though. I've always taken the stance that if it's worth buying, it's worth buying in rolls. I haven't gotten any lately, but the way it always worked, is it's like buying 9 tins, and getting one free plus a handful of change. The deal's even better if you buy good lös like Gotland or Gellivare. It starts a bit cheaper in the first place, but in addition to getting the free tin after purchasing 9, you get another free tin on top of that because they still use proper 50g tins :^)

Did all los snus come in 50 gram tins before? I have been noticing that it is getting harder to buy a pound of coffee and they often package coffee in 10 or 12 ounce bags now. Funny thing is that the look like they are the same size as a 1 lb bag when they are next to each other on the store shelf.

Yup, 50g was still the standard when I started snus. They allegedly dropped it to 45g due to tax purposes. I don't believe that. I think they dropped it to retain the same price. Manufacturers must think we're all idiots(maybe a lot of us are?). You're gonna pay the price, whether it's 1 or 2 tins of snus, cans of coffee, boxes of cereal... If you're "saving" money because the size is smaller, you aren't really saving money. I'd rather pay the extra, and get the proper amount in the container. Some of them are really shifty. The size is only a tiny bit less, so people that don't read labels won't realize they're getting screwed.
