LOL PP. I get enough cross looks with my snus and ~100 lb pipe tobacco hoard (vacuum sealed in ball jars but not frozen). People consider you a wizard if your gold/stock/investments appreciate 2 or 300% in a few months but you're considered odd, albeit harmlessly, when it's 'only' tobacco. :-)

You are probably right about the value of the vacuum sealing. The only snus I have where I did that immediately was the freshest batch which I'll have to report on in a few months/year. I received my 'food saver' vacuum sealer as a gift. It has yet to see any food but I can take my roast meat in a pipe. The satisfaction of 'winning' the game by bypassing the oppressive taxes is almost as great as the tobacco enjoyment itself. That alone is worth the cost of admission.

ya know you are absoluuely right. I never thought about it that way. By purchasing a ton of snus pre-pact I saved enough $ to buy several food savers, seriously. Don't worry tho, a year seems like a very short time in this regard. It will still be fresh.

100 lb of pipe tobacco!! holy crap.

My food saver hasn't seen any food yet either.

I got a large bag of coffe/van snus from a member here that was quitting snus, as I remember. She had taken all the portions out of the tins and vacuum sealed them loose. I've been useing them and they are perfect, tho they are still less than a year old. It was great cuz they didn't take up much room at all without the tin. Those lil bastards are so close together now that there isn't any room for air. And thats whats most important.

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Yeah, I almost much bought out every type of tobacco from each store that I could find. 47 tins of FVF (all I could get from the vendor, was either smokingpipes or cup o' joes) and the rest is mostly bulk. Got all the samuel gawith I could get my hands on, unfortunately I wasn't the only one doing that so it wasn't easy to find all that I wanted of that brand. So I had to settle on some things that were already sold out everywhere. It was a bit expensive but I literally will never need to buy pipe tobacco again as long as I take care of what I have. Some air is good for pipe tobacco aging (air in the jar) which is one reason the bulk was jarred first before sealing it.

I freeze alot of my snus.. I heard though it's better if you're going to use it before experation just to keep it in the fridge.
            It seems logical. Any thoughts?

Yes. Freezing most assuredly has an effect, however slight, on the flavor and feel of the snus--just as freezing will affect coffee, vegetables, meat, etc. I prefer fresh, refrigerated snus, and every new batch always had a few tins make it into the fridge for 'immediate' consumption. I would only refrigerate if using before the 'expiration' date.

from where I sit its the Hound part. It smells a lil funny.

freezing never affected the coffe/van and my 4 year old triumph or the 4 year old cuban snus.

Still sounds crazy, 100 pounds of pipe tobacco do you smoke 10 times a day or are you planning to pass it on to your grandchildren and were you one of the people who bought 50,000 tins of irish flake which is why it's been out of stock for like 3 months. I have a two month stash and people think that's crazy even though it saves me hundreds of dollars. I have a theory that there is still some guy out there with 10,000+ tins of dunhill from before orlik started producing it contemplating suicide.

~100 pounds seems to be the gold standard for when one can stop cellaring tobacco and just sit back like Bilbo Baggins puffing the rest of one's days away without worry--which was basically the idea. Irish Flake is too strong for me (aside from smoking it in the smallest cobs) so there's no score to settle there. But yeah, I was one of those a**holes buying up everything a few months ago.

I just received an order from Northerner today, March 4th for 20 tins of Oden's Kanel. The best before date on all 20 was for 02/03/2011. So it had expired on March 2nd, the day I placed the order. I'm a little disappointed, as I've never had this happen with Northerner before.

You should contact them about the order...here is their link to their helpdesk.

Yep, already submitted an inquiry. They've been great in the past with any issues, so hopefully they'll help me out with this. But in the future, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the expiration date. Thanks

Yeah it should be sold under the soon to expire category. I got some Jakobson's classic strong from snuscentral that's march 31st 31032011, I don't have much experience with jakobsons but other snus stays fine a month after without refrigeration, also it shocks me they managed to pull that off since they didn't get Jak's classic until early January. Still that's a little old I'm surprised though my random rolls are all good until may, june, and July so that's nice.

The last 2 big orders I placed within the last 2 weeks some of the tins had an early 2012 bb date. I was kind of surprized. I never worry about bb dates as long as they don't send me expired or 1 week from expireing snus. Vacuum sealing and a freezer will keep it good for what I believe to be 5 years. That old Triumph that I have is like fresh made snus today. Thats kind of my test snus for how well the sealing and freezer will preserve the snus.
