Had an interesting dream (about snus)

Dreamt that US Smokeless Tobacco contracted Swedish Match to supply them with Ettan portioned snus, US Smokeless packaged them in Copenhagen cans, and sold them as Copenhagen snus here in America..



That would be awesome, but why is it not feasible? For instance, car manufactorers do this all the time with powertrain, engine/transmission, platform sharing....

Well, Swedish Match already has a big presence in the U.S. smokeless market with their own brands of dip and chew, notably Longhorn, Timberwolf, and Red Man. So I'd think a snus under one of their own brands would be more likely. U.S. Smokeless has already demonstrated a lack of ability with snus with their Skoal Snus. (Do they still make that?)

They probably wont though, for fear of cannibalizing their own dip sales.

So what? Their dip sucks, I'm not going to lie it's decent, but T-wolf is mid quality compared to Cope and Grizz. They won't make redman or T-wolf snus I can guarantee it.

Maybe Snus makers are going about this wrong.

Instead of marketing their product as snus.............why not play on the familure..................Promote it as a throw back..............smokeless tobacco as it was originally........without all the chemicals or addatives.............when natural tobacco was.........well.......... natural

Develop a longer cut Grov.............and put it in a tin with labeling that looks like old American smokeless tins

Brand it with a proper name (one that has some connection to early American Snuff production)

For example................say you dug up the fact that in Bumpton MN an immigrant by the name of CJ Jargenson was one of the first people to make snuff in the USA...........so you call the product "CJ Jargenson's Smokeless tobacco" or "Jargenson's Snuff"

Then promote the History of snuff production, the old world process of manufacturing, the safer alternative it provides, and the spitless nature....................and never mention the word snus

Market it as the real deal..........snuff before big corporations got involved

Might find a little wider opening in the US Market

And I always wondered what Skoal meant, and I recently watched this Swedish movie, and when they drank, they'd yell out, what sounded like "skoal", like we say "cheers" here(in the US), and it made me wonder if Skoal was meant to be associated with Sweden?

Tom................ snus/dip/smokeless came to the USA with the Scandinavian immigrants in the 19th century.

That was the logic behind the throw back approach to marketing Snus as the original, old world smokeless..............American dip like it was pre corporate corruption

Skål... Move the little "o" to the left of the "a", and it says the same thing, but is recognizable to Americans. It means "cheers", or general good wishes for a group toast, or meal.
