If you could ask RJ Reynolds any question, what would it be?

As I mentioned in another post here, in an upcoming article for my website I'm going to have an audience to ask questions of RJ Reynolds regarding their SNUS product in the coming week. I thought it'd be fun to get some submissions and see questions you guys would like to ask of them. Granted, I have my own as well, but think it would be great to ask some questions you guys want to know the answers to. I'd love to hear some input.

NOTE: Keep it tasteful. Not "Why don't you make real snus?!"

I would like to know if they have ever considered bringing Swedish Camel snus over here as a joint venture.

I would also like to know what they think the future of snus in the United States will be.

Nah, but I agree with the questions GoVegan asked. Also, Why do they sweeten it up and dry it out so much?

• Sweet 'cause that's what the average American palate dictates
• Dry so no refrigeration required (better floor/shelf visibility and less retailer angst)

Tell them users of traditional swedish snus don't like overbearing sweetness and heavy artificial flavors, and that we would like an American snus that we would like, so they should make Camel Natural SNUS, that is not sweet, or is very very very subtle, but only to highlight a nicely seasoned tobacco taste.

Camel Natural SNUS -- now, that's the ticket!!

Other companies do that with some of their products.
The long-time recipe adjusted for a new market, without relinquishing their popular items.

I love the snus I've got..............not really interested in an Americanized version........................ sooo................I'd probably just ask them if they knew where my spare set of car keys are........................ I can't seem to find them anywhere

I, too, love the snus I've got but since

• it's not easy to get in these parts (the cost of moving is actually more prohibitive than the price of snus!)
  ~
• and it's getting too expensive to order online for those of us in 'banned' states who have to work around all the idiotic rules and regulations. Plus, the last test run I did to an address where I can receive the product, the tobacco tax for that state was more than the snus itself, bringing the final cost to more than $6 per can on an order of 40 cans/4 rolls (not counting the shipping cost)!!

Maybe eventually the Swedish product might make its way alongside the Camel Natural SNUS.

1. That's not the American way
2. There are international agreements in play; even if they did come to some agreement, the time-frame would not get them a leg-up in the marketplace and some other US company would have the upperhand
3. And, once again, it's just not the American way of doing business

I hear you and agree..............I am just innately suspicious of anything American Tobacco touches.

It may start off as Swedish snus.................then cost cutting.............shelf life..........consumer focus groups............profit margins................and before you know it ......................we're back to ingredient lists that give us but one aspect of the whole process.....................that tell us................. for all practical extents and purposes............... it's still the same product.....................all the while your lip is falling off.

Soo.....................if it's all the same................I'd be happy just to know where I put my keys

Check The Madam Sugar Emporium ... peoples leave all kinds of things there, even keys!!


As far as the suspiciousness of American Tobacco's ways, the rules today are supposed to help us protect ourselves from the nefarious deeds of those we deal with. (I can dream, can't I?)

The FDA is next to useless in actually protecting us but maybe there might be other watchdog agencies that could help, especially concerning truth in advertising. And with the interwebs with Facebook and MySpace, etc, t'ain't hard getting a grassroots movement going (along with a good bowel movement!!).

I'm willing to give Camel the chance, but if they screw it up then we take them to task.

I'm not really interested in anything RJ Reynolds has to offer. I just rather quit all together than to give one red cent to them.

I don't really have anything to ask RJR.

I do have a couple of more general American tobacco / snus questions, though:

1) Swedish Match owns Pinkerton, the maker of Red Man products. Why couldn't SM, as Pinkerton, produce (in the US) the same Swedish-recipe snus and sell them them to American consumers through Red Man's established channels?

2) I don't know much about them, but there is a company marketing organic, natural tobacco cigarettes under brands such as American Spirit. For some reason, it is in my mind that they are based in Arizona (I guess I could stop being lazy and look it up). I wonder if we or somebody could get them interested in producing natural American snus?
