As of now, you can't bring up harm reduction if you're a manufacturer. FDA doesn't allow it.

And I seriously doubt that Camel or Marlboro would make that the focus of their presentations even if they could. In fact, I wouldn't put it pass them to have covertly pushed/lobbied for that FDA rule!!

This is probably the sexiest snus can I have ever seen. I think Swedish Match should switch to similar metal tins for all of their portioned varieties.

I kinda like the Northerner (formerly known as Oomph) dual-hinged toilet-lid containers!!

So we find a politician to make harm reduction a major part of his platform. He could talk about it all he wanted. Then we could even form our own group to support him with "political" tobacco ads.

Putting all your snus under refrigeration, away from the visible, attention-getting snus, is doing no one any favors. Consumers are accustomed to going to the coolers for 'a cold one' but not for anything they're expected to carry around in their pockets.
I think you're both right. It makes sense for snus to be near the cigarettes and other tobacco products, where tobacco users would be looking, but also it would be neat if it could be in a drink fridge or somewhere else where other consumers might spot it. (I bet even most cig smokers don't look closely at the cig display-they know what they want and just come in and ask for it.) Camel snus is both placed by cigs and in a refrigerator--so placing a refrigerator near cigs can be done, but I strongly suspect that Camel has had to overcome resistance from store operators to having to make space for their refrigerators. And those fridges are Camel-specific--not only because of their shape, but I bet anything Camel forbids them being used to display any non-Camel product.

Anyway, the law makes the placement issue something of a moot point. Under federal law (not sure if this is in PACT or the new FDA regs), in any store that allows minors to enter, smokeless tobacco has to be out of reach of the customer, either behind the counter or in a locked container. So you can't just have it in an unlocked soda fridge or on the shelf.

As for pushing harm reduction, I agree that would be a strong marketing point, but it causes legal issues as well. I'm not sure if any law specifically prohibits tobacco companies from making harm reduction claims [Edit: per chadizzy, there is one], but they got really burned in lawsuits and PR campaigns for making similar claims about filtered, light, etc. cigarettes in the past.

Honestly, couldn't care less where this placed --- just get it placed...

Really would like to try this (along with the Catch Glow).

I think the cost would be prohibitive but it does look great... I know! I'll save all of my Catch Pure Mint tins and put my other snus in it...

Cool, something new for the ladies. We need some more new brands stateside for those of us that didn't switch from ultra-sweet minty cigarettes. I'm guessing that 01/02 will be pulled within the next year but me is still hoping that the General Long will be here soon.
