What about the poor bastard (and, yes, I mean poor) who's trying to get out from under a long-term smoking addiction (that probably started back when you would get free matches with your smokes, which themselves were under a buck a pack). Cheap smokes eventually evolved into an overtaxed albatross, and resulting ill health.
Along comes snus, probably the safest harm-reduction alternative to smoking. Much cheaper than cancer-sticks, and bystanders are not subjected to irritating smoke. Definitely a win-win situation.
Then the shit literally hits the fan. The stop smoking gurus, not satisfied with demonizing cigarettes, now go after tobacco itself. But ineffective nicotine big-pharma products are left untouched because there's no tobacky in their products.
In their quest for power, these idiots push for the PACTCRAP Act to 'save the children'. And that pack of wolves we've elected to look out for the interests of all their constituents goes along for the ride after pocketing the graft ... whoops, I mean contributions ... they've received from Big Pharma. In the process, what started out as a fairly inexpensive means to defeating a bad addiction has more than doubled in price for most of us, and we know there's no end in sight --- this is just the beginning of a major cluster****.
Yep, we should definitely feel lucky.
Just think how much luckier we'll feel when a month's
supply of snus will cost as much as a week's rent!!
/rant
I did start back when you could get free matches with your smokes, which were under a buck a pack, hell I remember them at 52 cents and even lower and remember saying when they reached a buck I would quit... But here I am 38 yrs later and while snus has gotten me down to 3-5 max smokes a day from being A chain smoker. so I come along and find snus and the pactcrap starts just as i find it back in july and am just as pissed as the rest and feel like a poor bastard in that aspect...

I don't think multiple rolls are going to pass through customs unnoticed, especially via UPS. I've never tried it myself though, and would love to hear if you're successful.
Here's the taxes by Province. We really get screwed in Alberta... no PST/HST, but those amounts are small compared to $0.30 per gram, which is by far the most tax in Canada. That's $7.20 in tobacco tax on a tin of portions, plus excise tax, plus GST, plus "handling fees". It's ridiculous to say the least.
It is a little funny to hear Americans complaining loud and hard about $20 tax on a roll or whatever since PACT. I'm so jealous!Attached Files

WOWZER!!
Another blast from the past.
Close, though. My first 'puter was a Trash-80...
Finally dumped ... whoops, recycled ... it about a year ago.
I do remember building my first (and only) radio broadcaster in the early '60s; my neighbors actually found the 'station' and started making requests -- that ended when the unit thankfully died.

That's funny! My first computer was a Timex Sinclair because a Commodore Vic 20 was expensive. I finally broke down and bought a TRS 80 Model 4P. It must have weighed about 30 lbs but it was considered portable because the keyboard folded on top. It had a green screen, no hard drive and was a bear to try and get it to do anything. My first modem was a Hayes compatible 300/600/900 baud. People tended to use local bulletin boards to connect as AOL used to cost a fortune.
I miss playing Zaxxon!
