My first modem was a Hayes compatible 300/600/900 baud. People tended to use local bulletin boards to connect as AOL used to cost a fortune.

    I miss playing Zaxxon!
I started with a Tandy Model I and had a Timex Sinclair and Commodore 64 and also a Trash 80

I used to LOVE Zaxxon on the C64 and all the King's Quest games.

Yep, I have me a 4p, also. Actually got it functioning with a third-party OS and did VisiCalc spreadsheets for a retail store I had at the time. My biggest problem with it was that Drive 1 constantly died and needed replacement. I remember, too, when floppies were floppies, and big! Finally got rid of it, and my Model 100, last year.

My first printer was one of those wide-print jobs and cost over $1000 --- more than the damn computer!

As far as 'online' went, I used to connect to Compuserve and hoped no one picked up an extension phone and broke my connection.

If I had banked all the money I spent on computers and accessories I'd be sitting pretty now!

Those were the days my friend ............ but sure glad they're behind us!!

Heh heh, so was mine. It was so weird. It kept rebooting itself every few minutes. I was persistent, trying to figure out if I could get it to work. Finally, I thought I noticed something - it seemed like every time it rebooted, a car had just driven past my house. I took it to the window and was looking out as I used it. Sure enough, when a car drove by, the Timex rebooted. It must have been RFI from the cars' ignition systems. And my house was set back about 50 feet away from the street.

I had bought it at K-Mart and I took it back. They refunded my money with no problems. Then, I bought a Commodore 64, which I used for several years.

Here's the taxes by Province. We really get screwed in Alberta... no PST/HST, but those amounts are small compared to $0.30 per gram, which is by far the most tax in Canada. That's $7.20 in tobacco tax on a tin of portions, plus excise tax, plus GST, plus "handling fees". It's ridiculous to say the least.

It is a little funny to hear Americans complaining loud and hard about $20 tax on a roll or whatever since PACT. I'm so jealous!
Thought about moving to Nova Scotia? That's where I'd like to be in Canada :^D

Regarding the tax... You could try arguing that the actual tobacco doesn't make up the whole product. It actually holds a minority of the total weight, at least with lös. I suspect you wouldn't get far with that argument, because the government's only interested in collecting money, not doing the right thing. They'll bend/break laws to bring themselves the most money. The other alternative would be to get a snus kit. I mean the complete DY set, where the tobacco comes dry, and you have to cook it yourself. You'd have to use lös, or make your own portions, but that would cut the tax by more than half, but you pay a big chunk at once if it got caught.

For a ridiculous idea, pay someone to wrap a roll of lös in a ginormous cigarette paper. Voila! 20¢ tax on a roll of snus :^D

          Edit:
Regarding computers, my first was an Atari800. I didn't do a whole lot on it, but I tried a few BASIC programs, wordprocessed my homework, and played games :^D
