Some day this week I will have my hands on two new cans of portion snus. It will be my first time with portions and I want to know what folding a portion does, and what are the different ways of doing it.
I don't know abou anybody else, but I fold them length wise so that they stay tucked up nice and high at work. They also seem to last a bit longer that way too before they get juicy and runny.
I also fold them lengthwise, mostly for discretion as well as comfort. The more I lurk here, the more it seems that just about everyone does. I just read Zero stating that folding portions compacts them and lessens the snus-to-gum surface area, making the flavor last longer and the nicotine delivery slower. Makes sense!
I fold them yes and have always done it.
First I did it to get them perfectly in place, now because they don't stay unfolded in the gap snus has given me ;D
Well, call me the black sheep, then, because I don't fold mine - I just loosen up the snus a bit and flatten the portion out a bit. For me I find that folding the portion bulks it up and makes it more intrusive than flattening it out and tucking it away. Matter of preference, really.
I always fold mine lengthwise. I only used them flat when I first started. I quickly figured out that a folded portion felt better under my lip. And they stay in place better when I fold them.
I even fold maxi portions. It most closely resembles the feeling of a pris of loose under your lip and I adore that feeling.
Perhaps one with a long upper lip and/or lots of gum can get away with not folding. Those with shorter upper lips and less gum will more likely find the portion taking a slide down over the teeth and around the corner.
Most of the time I roll the portions up width wise, so it looks like a short, thick pris. Then, to switch things up, from time to time I either fold them in half width wise, or roll them length wise.... Just to keep things intersting.

This is exactly what I do, too. I like them to be as flat and as thin as possible, and when I did try folding them it just made a big fat bulge.
It doesn't work quite right with the General Onyx, given their unusual, triangular shape, but the N&Js flatten out very nicely.
One of my favorite aspects of Onyx is their profile/shape. However, I don't normally fold my (normal) portions to avoid the bulge. After a bit, I flip the portion around the opposite way and that freshens it up.
Interesting this... I work the portion to 'fluff' up the snus, then hold one corner and shake the snus down, then I fold that corner back on the portion bag so that it doesn't show over my teeth, otherwise the portion is flat-ish and relatively thin...
