This might be something some of you find helpful

When I first open a can of los……………I pack (smash) the tobacco firmly down in the tin

I have a shot glass that works perfectly to pack the tobacco evenly and tightly.

I have found that this helps the snus stay fresh, moist, and full flavored longer.

It also helps some brands that tend to get crumbly or even a little bitter toward the end of the can

(I am thinking especially of Kronan which is good the first few pinches but becomes more and more bitter the longer the tin is opened)

Anyway……..thought I would pass this along………..try it………. and see if it works for you

I do the opposite. When the can is about 1/2 done I shake it really good. I like to fluff it up so it looks like I have more. I will try your mash trick though and see if that helps with freshness.

I do the same thing, But didn't think about using a shot glass... I keep packing (Smashing )the los as it get's used against one side and also I have found that this helps the snus stay fresh, moist, and full flavored longer... I do this throughout the use of the can until it's done and have had no issues with drying out Los...

yeah, I noticed it...sucks

I'm going to try the "pack it down" technique when I open my next can of Grov...it dries out quicker than any other los I use, thanks the for the idea

Definitely something I need to try.. I thought I was the only one who noticed the flavor isn't as good once you get to the end of a can.

I did that once on my own and it worked, thanks for the reminder, I don't refrigerate my snus and it takes about a week to finish a can of loose.

this has just been instinctive to me once I get about a third of the can gone. Maybe it's from using dip but that stuff never stayed packed in the can. Snus does and it reduces the surface area that comes in contact with the air. I don't use a glass or anything though that's a good idea. I use my fingers to pull it all to one side of the can and pack it into the side so there's no shake floating around the can. It makes me take bigger pinches though.

And to clarify......I only use the shot glass till about half way through the can...............then I do exactly the same thing as WK..............pack it to one side.

I use the glass because I can get an even and more firm pack................and because less snus sticks to the glass than to my fingers (this is especially true with brands like Gellivare and Landstroms)

And you are right..........a firmly packed can will result in bigger prises (or at least prises with more tobacco in them due to the close pack). Thus, I adjust my pris size accordingly

I don't find that Gellivare and Landstroms stay packed though. I'll try the glass thing later when it's time for los...at this time of the day I'm still eating tampons as you put it. Maybe this Landstroms I've got is a little too dry. I'm weary of dripping some water on it though. It's like coffee grounds after you pour water through it. I've gotten to hillbilly pinch more and more but I have to use my ghetto tool with this one still or I get mud mouth something fierce.

You can try and pack it down with the end of a fleshlight. It's the perfect size and los won't stick to it.

but if I do that I won't get the amazing nic hit from using the tools God gave me. I fear that for a while the Fleshlight thread will leave it's...uhh...DNA all over this forum.
