    Switching los cans

Specifically with the cheap fiberboard los cans Swedish Match uses.

After going through quite a bit of los, I thought I'd switch the cans to see if it kept the snus fresher longer. I found that my SM los would get pretty dry within a week or so of being opened, even in the fridge. I cleaned out an old general portion can and put a can of GES los in it, packing the los in to accommodate for the smaller can (due to catch lid).

Its been a little over 2 weeks now and the los is as fresh as it was when I first opened it. I did this with ettan as well and have seen the same results. I am curious if anyone else has tried this? It seems to greatly extend the 'freshness' of the snus, so much so to where I don't have to rehydrate it anymore. Interestingly enough I never have this problem with any thunder/phantom los I have, which come in all plastic cans as opposed to the cheaper fiberboard/plastic SM uses.

Good idea russki.. I have never tried that but, I have dumped cans of Taboca los into an old Skruf los can. Because sometimes those Taboca cans are nearly impossible to open.

Yeah I've found that it really extends the life of the los. Make sure to clean out the can before you switch so it doesn't pick up different flavors, or use the equivalent portion can (i.e. put GES los in a GES/general portion can). Let me know how it works out for you... think i'll be doing this regularly now as it seems to be working out a lot better than having to rehydrate the los every week or so.

I discovered this when I had to transfer some ettan los out of a can that arrived broken, it does indeed work very well, even more so because it gets packed down and the indented catch lid means less air in the can.

I wish Swedish Match would switch to plastic cans for their los varieties, but apparently they claim Swedes would be up in arms, since cardboard cans are "tradition". They should find out -- switch a single brand of los (General, for example) to plastic in select test markets to see if its well-received. In my opinion, freshness trumps tradition.

N&J lös came in a plastic tin. The only SM brand to do so I believe. I'm not surprised it keeps it fresher, but I never bothered. A Gotland tin would be best for that purpose.

I have to agree... and their logic behind that is quite odd. I get the whole tradition thing, but at some point they have to realize the error in their ways. I guess as long as the tradition is strong there wont be any change, but using cardboard over plastic based on tradition is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

I don't mind the paperboard tins, but I'd much rather they had a proper tin top. The plastic is cheezy, and often breaks in shipping.

Gotlands cans. They rock. I'm with lxskllr.

I think they're the best cans out there. I go through my portions fast enough where it doesn't matter to switch cans but it would be worth it to buy a can of Gotlans if only for the can. If you want you can scrape the label off and clean the adhesive with a solvent to get it all off. The gray can is nice all by itself. They don't open. They don't crush. They let less air in than any other I believe. SnusOn!

I agree with lx on this one, I like the paper cans, I haven't had problem with them

I do the same thing as russki and dump all fiberboard los cans into the corresponding plastic empty portion cans and have done so ever since I started using Los starting with my 2nd can... I have never had a problem with Los drying ever since and some cans have been open and lasted 2 months...YMMV

First thing I do when I take a new Ettan los tin out of the freezer is transfer it to a Gotlandssnus tin. Probably been using the same one for 4 months now. Sometimes I use the empty paperboard tin to scrap spent prilas into.

I go through them fast enough that I haven't had to do that (yet). Those Gotlandssnus tins are damn nice for the purpose though. Or that new Icetool can looks pretty sweet.
