    Do you spit or swallow?

I just had a question about Snus. I bought a can and the can said that when you use it that you don't have to spit it out, that it is safe to swallow, but I have some friends who use it too, but they all spit it out when they use it. I don't even bother spitting, I always swallow the snus, my question is: Which one are you supposed to do? Spit or swallow?

If I want to spit I spit, but once you get used to snus, you don't salivate very much, so there's no need to spit. At least that's been my experience.

LOL, when I read the above 2 posts I got confused as to what the REAL question is. Lets make this perfectly clear.

Under no circumstances should you swallow the snus tobacco. It probably won't hurt you but its meant to spit it out when you are finished.

Yes, snus is made to swallow the juice only. But if you want go ahead and spit out the juice anytime you feel the need. Snus juice is meant to be swallowed.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I never spit. If I had to spit I wouldn't use snus. That's one of the biggest reasons I prefer it to American snuff.

I never spit when snussing. It is one of the benefits of snus vs American Dip. Makes it clean and easy to use anywhere.

Yeah, that was my question, I apologize if some of you thought that what I meant was swallowing the actual snus- I know you're not supposed to do that. What I was asking was is it safe to swallow the "Snus Juice" or your saliva while snussing?

I have swallowed a portion or two in my time, it won't hurt you, I promise.

Reason I don't eat and snus anymore. Guess I am just not talented enough to pull that off. But the first time I swallowed one, I remembered that Swedish law treats snus the same as food as far as cleanliness standards go. So it didn't stress me out too much.

When I first started snusing I would spit for the first few minutes on some of the juicer portions until the juices became a little clearer. I don't bother now. I was initially concerned on getting sick from it like I did when I was 12 and swallowed some Kodiak. I was spinning for hours.

I have been using snus for about 3 months now. Still new to it, to be sure, but by all accounts I'm accustomed to it and I love it. I still spit sometimes. For me it all seems to depend on how hydrated I am. If I am drinking, or for some other reason dehydrated, I find that my lip absorbs the juice and I have no need to spit or swallow -- -- it's a completely dry experience. Other times, when lots of juice needs to go somewhere, I don't mind swallowing if I have a beverage. Other times, for whatever reason, I spit constantly as if it were American dip. For reference I never used American dip, and i put portions in the front-upper. I find putting it in the lower lip dramatically increases the need to spit. But for what it's worth, I am a regular snus user who, despite what I read of others' experiences with it, do a fair amount of spitting.

I was going to add also that you (or at least I) can cut down on the amount of saliva that accumulates by making sure the portion or prilla is just off-center in my upper lip. If it works it's way around more to the side, back further along your upper gum line, it's a lot easier for your salivary glands to feed into it, creating a ton of saliva.

Also, the saltiness naturally causes you to salivate. I find that when I don't swallow for long periods of time for whatever reason, the accumulating saliva itself leads to more salivating.

Man, that all sounds gross, but I love snus.

While using snus, everything stays in the mouth, very tasty, then juice goes down the throat.

I've never swallowed a portion, but anytime I have a pris of los in, I usually end up swallowing about 10 or 15% of the pris due to it dissolving around the edges. Doesn't freak me out a bit, although having something to drink around does help since straight los snus is quite salty (think almost like seawater). But after the edges dribble off, I don't get much sliding off, so I just swallow the juice. If that helps.
