    New Snuser Problems

Hi, new member and have been lurking for about a month (unable to bake without watching zero's video haha) only recently started using snus when i found about it from wikipedia (you know how it is you start looking for info on Winston Churchill and two hours later are reading about swedish snus heh). Just wondering about a few problems im having ..

As a bit of background info im 19 living in Wales and am somewhat unconventional in that i smoke a pipe, use nasal snuff, cigars cigarettes .. you name i have tried/want to try it. most of these other than proper lighting have never had problems enjoying the tobacco ..

With snus however find myself needing to wet portions prior to hookin them under my lip, the first two i had a really bad burn as the portion leached the moisture from my lip, and since then have either been putting two drops from the cold tap onto each portion or a small amount of spit rubbed onto either side (not hygienic but dont always have access to a tap)

I have been slowly reducing the amount as i go on but am wondering whether this reaction is normal for a new user??????

and one other, with most pure tobacco flabours am having difficulty differentiating them from one another ... n&J i can tell because I get a nictotine rush .... and general is different enough (this i like enough that im on my first general los) but mostly ettan grov etc i find very similar in taste (though i have about 5 frozen i haven't tried yet) ... as i delve deeper and continue will different tastes become more apparent? like cigars etc

oh and the salt content .. in certain brands i find my lips and mouth feeling extremely salty for the first half hour ... again will i notice this as time goes on??? my girlfriend doesnt like kissing with some of the saltier ones lol but whaddaya gonna do

    Current favs portion:
    Offroad Icemint
    General
    N&J

    Fav los:
General (only one ive tried so far)

thanks to any and all who reply

Now, I dunno for how long you've been snusing, but the burning is completely normal for the first week or two (maybe even longer). It'll take some time for your gums to get used to the stuff. Don't worry, it'll pass.

Are you using white portions? - some say that they are harder on your gums and lips due to the dry material. Original portions are more moist by default, maybe you should try these.

    Yes, absolutely!

It'll pass and you'll get used to it, no doubt. Unless, of course, you really hate or can't tolerate salt in general ... then it might be a problem in the long run.

    Snus on, mate!

You'll get used to the salt in time, and you'll find the subtle flavors in all the snus' more easily. What I do to wet a portion is just stick it in my mouth, moisten as necessary on my tongue, then place the portion in my lip using my tongue.

I came from American snus(oxymoron?), and the Sewedish product was a bit of a shock at first. Salt was the main thing I tasted. After awhile I was able to distinguish the subtle nuances(there are none in American snus :^P), and I don't even really notice the salt anymore.

Snusing for almost two months now, not constantly though have had pipes cigars in between ... some days not at all some days 6X ......possibly meaning it will take me a longer time to adjust?

Also not using white portions but original

Thanks for the tip, i may try this, although to my virgin tongue it tastes quite fowl when it touches my tongue. Will have to give it a shot anyway ..

I found for me I needed to get away from smoking for awhile before the subtle flavors really showed themselves... Smoking really killed my sense of taste without me knowing it (in general that proved to be true).

You will get used to the salt, but it is overpowering at first. You're probably also getting the wrinkley upper lip deal - that passes as well .

I can definitely say that the saltiness does pass. I started snusing about two weeks ago, after finally getting up the nerve to try that Camel-crap. I gotta say, the Frost is great, like candy. So, after really liking that, I decided to try the real stuff, and ordered a few tins. But, patience is not my strong-suit, so I located the closest shop that carried real snus!

Seeing that I used to dip, and hated the loose stuff, I stuck with portions, and picked up General White portions, in Wintergreen, and Regular. As soon as I got back into my car, I tried the wintergreen, and man, it was salty!! Thank goodness I had a bottle of water in the car!! I figured I would stick it out, though, since I need to quit smoking.

When I got home, tried the regular, and the salt was even worse. I just figured that it the brand, and since I ordered other stuff, it would get better. But being cheap, I kept using the General. And now, after about 4 days, the saltiness has gone down considerably. And my urge to smoke is almost gone! Yay!

Are you front lipping? I only get the saltiness if I move it further back, like if I have to be out and about.

I'm trying different spots. Normally, I'm half-way between front and back, and the salty comes through pretty good. But I think it's just General for me. I just got my first shipment from buysnus, and this Lucky Strike regular portions aren't too bad. The only problem was that the damn post office broke open the package, and a few of my Elixyr peppermint portions were all throughout the package, making everything smell of mint!

Anyway, now I know what they mean by LSMFT!!

I don't understand why people don't like the "burn", I loved it :P
Only time I get it now tho, is in longer periods when I snus alot, like if I use 10 cans of loose snus in under a week or so.

I love the burn! Hell, I even buy flavors I don't like just so I can get it.
