    I need help flavoing snus

Hello, I'm a new member here and it's nice to have found forum filled with other snus lovers! Maybe some experts can help me out with a problem i have.

I live in Canada where snus is apparently illegal, and importing it is costly. I searched for over a year and couldn't find a decent supplier. So when I was at a convenience store near my place today and saw that they sell snus you can imagine I got really excited! They only had one kind though, Swedish Snus Suedois General Original. I paid $12 for a tin that contained 24 packets. However, my enthusiasm was greatly diminished when I tried one and realized the flavor is really strong and awful. I literally cant put it in my mouth without gagging. Also, I just realized it's 17mg of nicotine / pouch, so I presume I got the strong stuff. Is there also a way to split it, because that's too much nicotine for a non smoker like me - i still feel really nervous from the one i had an hour ago.

What I'm wondering is if there is anything I can do to make it more palatable, and also, how can I diminish the nicotine content? Can I open a pack and use half of it as loose snus? I don't have an Icetool so how can I keep loos snus together?

    Any help appreciated?

Opening portions and using it as los doesn't really work well at all. You can bust them out and make portions using cheesecloth or teabag material. Or you could just cut them in half....that works for me.

As for flavoring, you can add flavor but I have never diminished the flavor of a snus.

    Good luck

$12 a tin!!!??? I am not an expert so I am just sharing with you what I would do in your position because I would never give up on a tin that costly! I would do an ebay search for heat seal teabags and make my own portions. I would take one of the original portions and divide the contents in half, so in the end I would have 48 portions instead of 24. I have done this in the past (with los stark snus) and it was very time consuming and sometimes the flavor became so muted it was almost non-existent. BUT I have never cut portions open and remade these into new portions so maybe this could work?? Worst thing that could happen is you will be out a few dollars on teabags.

Just realized that Monkey suggested the same thing...I missed that when I posted..oops

There's a recipe for blueberry snus on my profile. Just swap out the flavor in the recipe when you make it (recipe calls for SnusX-brand snus, but I'm sure it will work for any unflavored (non-mint, non-wintergreen, etc.) snus. You might need to let your portions dry a little before applying the flavoring (not too dry, though).

I can't see covering up the taste of General. You could possibly fortify the citrus, but you'd just have more of the same. General IS snus. It isn't my favorite either, but it is text book snus. If someone were to ask me what snus is about, I'd point them to General. I'd either learn to like it, or cut my losses and run. I don't think you can change it in any way you'd like.

General is the standard in Swedish snus. You should probably try more portions and not base your opinion on just one try. Ekstra sterk (or extra strong) General is not for the faint of heart. It's a real man's snus and will bend you over backwards and do you up the ass if you're not careful. I've found my head spinning on numerous occasions, although I enjoy that. Next time, buy regular General or get the mint variety to mask the flavor of the tobacco.

Chances are the "awful" flavor you are experiencing is the salt content of Swedish snus. This is normal and your perception of it will diminish over time while your appreciation for the subtle flavors inherent in General come forward through repeated use. It really is an "acquired taste." General is flavored with bergamot, a citrus grown in the Mediterranean zones. Buy some Earl Grey tea if you want to learn to appreciate the "different" flavor of bergamot.

General is thr gold standard of snus. Its the stick all other snuses are mesasured by. I'm not saying other brands do it worse or better but I find it to be my favorite. Green Harvest ltd ed is quickly becoming my favorite.

I never ever heard that it was illegal , and besides , how would it be illegal and taxed at the same time (customs charges)? You can order it in regular portion if you like , saving you the trouble
