ok, so i conquered the burn in my throat by putting it closer to the front of my mouth, ive been sticking the portion in the center front of my mouth, HOWEVER now i have a new problem. if i stick it in the front of my mouth it turns my teeth yellow and brown, and is very noticeable and very unattractive... i am using brown portions, not sure if it would be any different with white, but i intend to find out... what are your thoughts? too far back burns my throat, and too far forward stains my damn teeth.. and the yellow/brown doesnt come out, not even when i brush my teeth.
where do you put it?

Try rolling the portion into a small, pris like shape. That's typically what I do. And yes, you still get a touch of stain on the teeth, but a quick and through swipe with the tongue will take care of most of the coloration that the snus leaves behind.
Go with either the left or right side of the upper lip; then plug the portion in tightly, but not too much as to make it uncomfortable. I locate mine right behind the second tooth on the left. Works for me. Give it a try, and experiment. You'll find something that works for you.
My rule of thumb is this; "There is no wrong way to snus, just snus what works for you".
Cheers,

I agree with Erik327, you need to swipe occasionally with your tongue to remove the "juice". I always plant my portions directly on either side of the frenelum - so pretty far up front. I have only had real problems with one type of snus and brown teeth - Probe. A very delicious snus, but very browning. I've always found simply sleeping at night with no snus that I wake up with pearly whites (I still brush and floss in the morning ).
I think you get a habit of swiping your tongue in front of your teeth pretty regularly (especially when you first put a portion in and it's juicing good). Oh, the white portions do seem quite a bit better about this.
I think it might also boil down to physiology. Some smokers have very brown teeth, others have very white teeth. My dentist always told me (when I was a smoker) that I was lucky because my teeth just don't seem to stain. That said, good oral hygene (brush with a whitening toothpaste - I use Crest Multicare Whitening, floss, ACT) are the best defense you have against brown teeth (in general).
If it turns out to be a real problem for you I'd suggest the dry white portions (catch, wise, etc...). Since they juice very little (if at all) you should be OK with them. Odds are very good the white portions will be fine, and you'll learn to use your tongue enough to make original portions work fine as well. Don't fear being relegated to snus you don't like though - you could pick up los for nighttimes (in my case after my wife has gone to bed ).

When I first started using portions I would get this problem as I would suck at them through my teeth and muddle around with them. I also didn't have them placed high up enough at first. Now that I am more used to leaving them alone this is no longer an issue. Also some brands tend to run a little more than others, I enjoy Lucky Strikes but they tend to get a little slimy for me and tend to slide around a little. I'm mostly using Gotlands Gul and Retro right now and have no problems with them running and despite the great flavor I oftentimes forget they're there.

I have found that certain brands/labels have a much higher tooth-stain factor. Loose vs portion is no difference. It seems that Swedish Match products create the worst discoloration of anything I have used.
The good thing is that the discoloration is simply a film that forms over your teeth. I keep a box of tissues at my station so i can give my choppers a quick wipe if they get noticably brown.

Welcome to the forum CiRiX! You will find plenty of fun here.
But you are talking to ghosts from 5 years ago when you could get Lucky Strikes in the US, Gotlands Gul was still made and Retro had just been invented and Diplomat discontinued.
For the record I don't believe that white portions are better for your gums than originals.Squeezyjohn

I've been wrong lots of times. Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
